A new battery would help that.

They don't kick as hard? Are you sure its not the road noise drowning out the bass?

What type of battery? Standard car battery of deep cycle battery?

It could be that the cabling to your amplifier isn't perfect - check the resistance on the power (be careful) and earth leads. If you can find any resistance there, then try and eliminate it.

However, if you've got a powerful amplifier, then it's likely that it is simply over powering the rest of the electrical system.

When you are driving, and doing over 2000 rpm, the alternator should be producing more voltage, anything up to 13.8V is likely. This extra voltage should let your amp produce more power, not less.

Crappy battery/Crappy earth.
In for pictures of your install.

Several issues here.

Firstly, your alternator should be around 14.1-14.2V, not 13.8 as per oggy's post.

Secondly, check your battery water level. You run a high-ish power sound system, you discharge the battery more than usual. Water is used up in the process of recharging - when water gets low you can have lower voltage.

Check for corrosion on the +ive battery terminal.

Size of cable from the +ive to the boot? Current draw on all amps?

Check your body earth, this should have been upgraded when you did your +ive to boot, with the same size gauge cable.

Check your grounds on your amps.

Several possible solutions:
Clean all grounds, upgrade ground on body-battery. Check/clean grounds on headlights.
Upgrade your battery to an Optima (D34)
Upgrade your wiring from battery to boot.
Upgrade your battery terminals.

As for your lack of 'punch'

Check to make sure that one sub is not out of phase, this can cancel sub-bass. If they are DVC subs, check to make sure one VC is not wired back to front.

The old dancing headlights. Do the above and you will be fine.

You wont be the last person to have this problem unfortunately.

I take it you have a direct power supply from the battery and not just tied it in to the electrical system?

Its these situations that a battery voltage stabiliser might help, keep in mind though a lot of them on Ebay are pretty useless! They'll never do everything they try and claim (like making your aircon cooler - most likely through a slighter faster fan speed) but at least it may help to smooth out the dips in power :)

If it does work, its one of those things that you can take off and put on your next car etc.
