Hi all,
I've just completed converting my auto TN to manual (yay!) and just wanted to guage interest in a document that outlines this proceedure. Do you guys think it's worth writing? How detailed should it be? Should I write a step-by-step layman's document, or just a primer, or something in between?
Well guys, what do you think?

i think something in between would be most helpful to those guys thinking of it. Blake could even host it on the site.
one thing i did notice when changing my brothers clutch last weekend using a gregory's manual (apart from the fact its hard to drop a gearbox with one wrist in plaster) is that details were very limited, ie one point was simply "remove plate". this same instruction was repeated numerous times for each of the plates, it turned out they were the plates that attach to the bell housing to fill the gap between it and the block. but with such simplistic instructions dad and i were struggling a bit..... having never attempted something of this scale ourselves be4.
In closing my rambling, i don't think u need extreme details, but detailed simple directions if u catch my drift...
Ohhhhhh and pics are always good! :D

Hey Tim,
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I've started writing more of a rough step by step guide, outlining the differences in the two models and some of the things that you should watch out for (more like caught us out). I think that fleshing it out a bit (including pictures) would probably be more beneficial for people..
I've got web space, so that shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps I'll get the camera out this weekend and take some rough pictures and make some diagrams - I've still got the donor car also, might come in handy for that..
Cheers
Please do, when my auto dies... i'm gonna replace it with a manual trans...
I have a TM but i'd imagine that it would be very similar
Thanks,
Bill

Well,
I've put together a (very) rough draft that I'll be updating over the next week or two (well, until it's finished). Please feel free to reply with any comments or suggestions!

good stuff... with a few pics i think it could be a pulitzer(sp?) prize winner.
Tim
a good indication that i found out awhile ago when writing instructions/tutorials.. is that if a 5 year old can read and understand it, you've written it well :)

Would it work on cars with digital instrumentation, as the pulse generator lives on the tranny?

Gav,
I don't really know the differences with the digital dashboard, though from what I've read in these forums it looks like the analogue and digital are very similar.
I've really only encountered pulse generators in relation to automatic transmissions, where the pulse generators are actually in the transmission and are used to tell the transmission computer information that can be used for shifting gears.
I'm pretty sure that this will work with most cars, though you might encounter some wiring issues (as I did) which is easily corrected by chainging looms.. I'd have no idea where to start with EFI, but I'm sure it has been done or is possible..

well the digital dash only came in auto didn't it?.... well i swapped the digi dash into my manual..... the plug is just a screw on job.... it screws into the outter casing of the diff.
