Hi all,

I've got a strange noise in my TJ AWD 3.5L 5sp tippy, it's hard to explain but maybe someone else has experienced it?

If I accelerate with 100% and then let go of the throttle suddenly once having reached a high rpm, there's occasionally a squeak from the front end of the car.

I don't think it's squeaky suspension because that's all quiet the rest of the time.
It actually reminds me of turbo flutter or even a strangled BOV. But sadly my Magna is N.A. :(

Can the throttle butterfly bounce or some other logical and non-expensive explanation, or do I need to get this checked out?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.
Graham.

Try it without your a/c turned on, mine has a similar noise as it shifts up from 2nd at high revs, air con belt slipping.

Mine does it on rare occasions under the same circumstances as you described...I'd say its a belt slip. It sounds like a "chirp" coming from the engine bay.

Holy poo, what a weird thing for a car to do.

I did have the air con on for the first time today, so that's consistent with what you're saying.
I'll test this out on the drive home.

Thanks!

perhaps you have a turbo concealed in your engine bay ;)

Haha this reminds me, years ago when we used to be try hard street racers and knew nothing about cars we believed a Corolla seca that we raced was turbo'd cause the dude drove with the aircon on cause on shifts it fully sounded like a BOV...:roflwtf:

Awesome - drove home without AC and no noise. problem solved, thanks guys.

Then I put the air con on to try and recreate the noise, nearly froze my balls so turned it off again. Brrr!
