Hi Guys, first thread on these forums, been following and reading for a few weeks, some really nice vehicles on here!

My issue, hoping someone has done something similar: I have a TJ series II AWD, and I installed a new sound system this past weekend, all went well and chasing the rattles now, which I have got almost all of them. The problem I have is with the Centre console section.

Firstly I followed the instructions linked here many times with the step by step photo guide.

The top section with the air vents usually pulls out as a complete unit once you disengage the cool air intake cord, but mine came apart between the face and the air vents, which in turn put the levers etc apart. I have clipped this back together, and it seems to of gone in correctly, but as I try to then get the unit to clip back in to place, it doesnt go all the way in and sits 3-5mm proud of the unit below it and feels as if the clips arent locking in, no matter what I try.

Same with the bottom section with the ashtry and lighter in it, the 2 clips holding it in place will not lock into position, the clips have good integrity, but just wont lock into place.

Has anyone had similar problems and found a solution? Its more visually annoying than actually affecting the dash, I just want it to be back the way it was

Oh, the new sound system goes pretty hard!, next step is a Sub, but its a new Alpine 103BT head unit with S Series 6x9s and co-axial 6.5s in the front. Sounds neat.

make sure that the heater control fascia is completely in place, you need quite a forceful push (but dont push the controls themselves!) to make that clip back in. FYI, the top air ducts actually sit behind the heater control fascia so make sure they are in the right order.

It is also worth noting that the air vents never really sit flush after removed a couple of times. Mine are sticking out marginally, its just poor design by Mitsubishi mostly.

Do you have an amp running the new speakers?

Thanks Monkey, No amp yet, but the next step of the install is to add an amp to power fronts, 6x9's and a sealed 12". I wanted to get the rattles and see what sounds I was missing before going over the top with everything in one hit.

Also the Ashtray doesnt seem to clip into place as when I pop the centre console section in (surrounds the gearstick) it pops it back out. Maybe the clips are tired?
