OK before anyone gets upset I am not looking to attempt to break the land speed record in a 380..... but does anyone know if they are speed limited at all? and........does anyone know what top speed they are actually capable off in standard trim. This is not an attempt to encourage someone to go out and test this on the road either. I was just interested thats all!! I reckon they would have to be good for around 220 kph.

To answer the OP's question it is a rev limiter on the ECU, not a speed limiter.

The 380 will never reach the rev limit in top gear, either a corner,a cliff , a cop or a tree will stop it.

i would think it might reach the limit in a manual, since it has the shorter gearing.

There was a similar thread on 3rd gen Magnas a while ago, just can't be a..d looking for it.

Anyway, the general consensus was that 3rd gens are speed limited to 210-215km/h.

Eight years ago I tested my manual TE 3.0 in the middle of the Nullarbor Plain and found it was limited to an indicated 220km/h, which I believe was a true 215km/h. It had plenty more to give if it hadn't been limited. And it was definitely a speed limiter not a rev limiter, because it hit the same speed in both 4th & 5th gears (and it felt different to the rev limiter as well).

I would guess that 380s are electronically limited to much the same if not identical top speed.

Hey guys,

There is to be no more posts in this thread relating to illegal activities. This thread is asking for information on what type of speed limiter there is on the 380, not how much someone has sped on public roads in their 380.

Cheers

Absolutely agree with this. I realise that there would be some of us that would have had our cars out on track days and as such would have opened them up legally. The history behind the question is that I used to have an ED fowlcoon and it was limited to around 175 kph. I was considering the possibility of a play on the track (nothing serious in a stock auto mind you, just some fun to see what it would do in a relatively safe environment) and didnt want it ruined if it was speed limited to a low speed.
