Hi my other thread states pretty much why im writing this , im installing a TR intake manifold, plenium, throttlebody and injector rail on my tp and i have to upgrade the ecu to a TR so any ideas about any problems i may have would be great
1989 magna tp se EFI
2.6 4g45
My Thoughts
1. Knock sensor
Is it worth hooking up and how much work is there to fit it
Can i get a TR's and bolt it onto mine?
Can i just resister it or something similar
2. Is there anything else im going to have to hook up???
Thanks

see picture...the red arrow
you drill and tap the blank that is on the back part of the block just below the head
dont know the size or the thread depth
you may need the TR distributor
also try doing a rocker roller conversion to the motor

Thanks
Is it worth having it , Ive read forums and worked out when it knocks it gives a +1 and anything over +60 knocks is bad anything under is normal so technically being a piezoelectric ill assume it works much the same way as a piezoelectric speaker so technically i could just disconnect it and it wont do anything and im assumeing the ecu wont give a cr*p ,
Any objections??????

it is part of the wiring loom
no one has posted up what happens when it is not connected
Is this an Auto or a manual
if its a manual no problem
if an auto the two TCUS are different as is 2nd gen auto in wiring

I have the Tr Dizzy
Its Manual so yeah wont have any trouble there
also whats the rocker roller conversion to the motor
i also have the head off the tr with rocker assem and cover etc
Whats the rocker roller conversion???

helped do the first TP motor conversion posted
this is on my own TN 2.6
M4 head
TR/TS 4 cyl cam and full rocker shaft that matched the cam
turn motor to TDC on number one Cyl on compression stroke
undo rocker cover
undo dissy
undo water pump pully on camshaft
undo timing pully nut 22mm
put timing cog on rest
undo old rockers
lift out old cam
fit rocker roller cam in its place
fit on roller rocker shaft ..and watch as the clean lifters fall out
torgue on rocker shaft to 20 nm max limit
refit timing bolt
refit water pump pully
fit dissy
use sealant on rocker cover
tighten down the rocker
start motor and retime engine

So basically your pulling the old rocker and cam shaft off and putting tr/ts ones on ??? Does it make much difference
And by the way I have a m6 head with all the tr/ts cam gear on it and rockers so I guess I could use that cam and rockers , the only problem is im minus a touqe wrench , a timing light and the nessesary knoledge to do timing
Lol
Is there any power increase by upgrading the rockers and cam? O a tr or equiv

while you are doing the conversion with
the inlet manifold and wiring loom
you may as well add the TR cam and rollers
should make the motor more responsive

also try doing a rocker roller conversion to the motor
The whole head would be better, the second generation combustion chambers are a better design.
Does the intake off a TR/S fit in the engine bay of a first gen? I didn't think they would fit.

i did some measuring and the intake manifold looks like it will fit with 10-20mm firewall clearance and the bonnet will most likley have to be cut to accommodate the plenum

Ok I'm going to hopefully get some parts this weekend. I'm looking at putting in the ecu fuel rail and injectors. Hopefully the looms are very similar.

Let me know how u go with the fuel rail as I was thinking of putting a tr ts rail into mine

Iv already got the fuel rail. The mounts are in different spots so it will require modification but otherwise I think it will go on fairly easy

Ok got the ecu today. It's from a manual that used to be auto so the wiring loom is still the auto one. Not sure if the ecus are different? Didn't take the loom because all the connections seem to be different, eg. Dizzy, mas, plenum... So basically to use the loom from the tr/ts u need most of the fuel system.
Now one of the plugs from the Tp loom plugs straight into the ecu. However the other plug does not. Now my question is would it be a wise move to cut the plug off the other loom and join it to the Tp loom to connect into the ecu?
If I can't get the ecu to run off my current loom it is not worth the hassle.
