Got my coilovers (k-sport) installed today on my GTV 'rada.

Tried a totally new mech, his speciality is ricing up car so i figured he'd be pretty good...also knows why style iam going for. Dropped the car off and told the guy as low as possible but still driveable and that it wont scrape consistantly on the wheel arches etc etc.

Got back this:

I was like...friggin' sweeet just what i want but was in a rush so didnt test drive the car...dashed home( had the stereo blacring) and bailed to the gym...NOW coming back from the gym i turned off the music to hear the car...WHOLY mother of F&*(&*()&)K god everything was scraping...not a here and there but CONSTANTLY..i think biggest culprit was the front arches..the tiniest turn made the loudest noise...i swear i cried a little..the drive home was painful. ok so moral: WAYY to low.

NOW rang the mech up to book in a time to raise it a lil and THIS is what stumped me. He said he'd have to charge (not just a lil but alot) to raise the height because apparently he has to take off the coilovers to adjust the height? i thought the whole point was it was adjustable by just taking off the wheel? Or is this guy trying to take me for a ride?

Btw i think iam gonna invest in sideskirts and flares...give the illusion iam riding low at least instead of actually riding at 40mm off the ground.

suggest looking at 'moulding' your guards a bit first.. heat gun and rubber mallet work well for the rear and zip tie back the fronts....

with the Ksports you have to take the bottom off so it would cost a bit for mechanic to do. but its only 2 bolts on the front and one on the rear, you should be able to do yourself if you have a basic understanding of how it all works...

also make sure you have stiffened up the dampers as well this will reduce the scrubbing.. although im not sure how much as my spring rates are a hell of a lot stiffer than yours.

much appreciated for the advise mate. Rears have been moulded back when i had the 20's in so they dont scrape as bad, only when bouncing after dips in the road now but dont understand how to zip tie the fronts though.

My spring rates are 12kg/8kg...i think i maybe should go harder, in the region of 14kg/10kg?

Damnit i kno...i love it at this height but being a daily i dont think its feasible, unless i wanna buy another car in a few months! lol

have you got the damper set on hard? if you wanna go that low its probably best to. with the coilovers you dont have to remove then, just take the wheel of and undo two bolts. then reset the height, just make sure you work out how high you lift it up so its even both sides. got any more question dont hesitate to pm me. looks hot btw, that about what i set my mates at lol

not sure on the spring rates u have quoted... I don't know exactly what mine are though...

basically u can zip tie alot of the plasting moulding and pull it back into the engine bay. just make two small cuts in it stick the zip tie through both holes and around something in the engine bay or behind to pull it right back...

failing this you can always pull it out, thats what muzza oz has had to do... also be aware that in the wheel arch is a wiring loom, if you rub through the plastic and break this you will loose all abs, windscreen wipers, traction control, blinkers etc...

The way the tyre sits at the back looks amazing.. maybe just a touch higher at the front and you'd be good to go?

lol reminds me of my situation a month or two ago, mike(lenda) and myself installed my coilovers and i was like you 'lets just slam it' well it was fun for about 20mins before i realised it was almost undrivable with all the scrapping.and a few day's later on the way to mike's to lift them up this happened...

hey Muzzi how do you find those those spring rates?,i have the 8/7's at the moment and wouldn't mind going the firmer springs...

Aaah i assume your tyson mate? dw i think ive learnt my lesson in the one night already...scraping anything and everything! Gonna be going back up. What was the consequence of the po po bearing down?

The whole reason i got 12/8's WAS so i can slam it down coz most aristo's/vip cars are running 14/10 in that reigion but the gtv being lighter i figured 12/8 would be good enough. In all honesty i really cant tell a difference with my old pedder's sports lows and 20's and this new setup. Mind you though i am only running 17's now so that would've softened the ride up a bit.

yer thats me,every dip in the road something would rub or scrape it got old very fast as you know.the consequence of that little encounter was a sticker of the yellow kind.

hmm that's good to know as my current spring rates are no where near as firm as i was expecting even with the damper's turned to the maximum.

If you asked this fella to make it "as low as possible but still driveable and that it wont scrape consistantly on the wheel arches" Then he clearly has'nt done what you asked and paid for, therefore, would'nt you expect him to rectify it with no charge?

you can get them from philcom rally, he'll get them to ur front door for about $1700. its expensive, but if ur looking for that 'low' look then its ur best option, cause shaun (philcom rally) wont sell SL's anymore cause they screw up ur shocks.
