The whole issue of lowering and spring rates is really confusing. Seen some members mentioning rates of 8 kg. Autospeed article on lowering a Verada said factory for Verada is 150 lb/inch in front and 110lb/inch at rear (which is soft). Would love to know figures for magnas (exec etc) and for Sports/Vrx and for Ralliart. Anyone know the lb/inch equivalent of 8kg rated springs. What are King LOWS rated at. Toying with the idea of fitting Sports/VRX springs (with new boge dampers) to my Advance TJ, but maybe should go for firmer springs. Many on the forums have said the Sports etc sits 10mm lower than Exec etc. Mitsubishi give same ground clearance for all models 150mm.

.0179 is the conversion factor.

To convert kg/mm to lbs/in, divide by .0179.
To convert lbs/in to kg/mm, multiply by .0179.

Example... 8k/mm = 447lbs/in, 6k = 335lbs/in, etc. etc.

i think i read somewhere that king lows KCFL-42 are 240lbs? and according to the catalogue they are not progressive.. the rears KCRL-43 not to sure on the rate, but they ARE progressive

email - sales@kingsprings.com.au with the part numbers and request the spring rates or what ever information you would like to know about the springs.

hope that helps.

My -96 TE clearance according to manual is 158 mm.
Rates of pounds or kg can be calculated - 1 kg is 2,2 lb or in reverse 1 lb is 0,45 kg. Inch is 25,4 mm. Therefore 150 lb rate equals to ruffly 2,7 kg/mm. Your example of 8 kg rate sounds quite firm, 447 lb. Pedders SportsRyders are rated 156 and 178 lb.
Hope this assists.

OK, so it is kg/mm, which makes sense. I am thinking of going 30% stiffer than standard springs. According to Autospeed Ralliart has stiffer springs than Sports/VRX, but an article in Police Journal reads that Raliart has same springs as VRX, only has better dampers (Koni).

yeah, they are pretty gay up to the VR-x.... However, the ralliart ones that use Koni's are not gay.

Its not a racing car, its a family sedan so the aftermarket companys will figure that the guy who wants to lower his a bit also has kids, so wont want a stiff bumpy ride. they are simply making the product for the most likely buyer i would think.
