Hey guys,

The high mount brake light on my sisters TJ has fallen off, and I can't seem to get it to stick back on there. What do I need to buy to fix it so it won't fall off again?

Cheers

I've used Loctite 406 before, still there, great for gluing dollar coins to the pavement too, but don't get it your fingers.

Placement of the white tab is critical, misplaced it will shine your brake light onto the parcel shelf.

Dont re-attach the light itself for a couple of hours.

I used that cause I had some lying around. Seems like the Factory used some silastic type adhesive.

I've always wondered how to take it off/how it was attached (not that I've actually even tried removing it)
mines got cobwebs growing in it

Hint: NEVER EVER EVER REMOVE THIS LIGHT!!!!

Mine fell down ages ago, i comtemplated smashing the back window and claiming it on insurance to get a new window so that o'brien had to put on the light lol

I ended up using Selleys wet area silicon sealant. Dried clear on the little bit that went over the edge too :D

Theres actually a little tab on each side that allows you to slide it off the glass. :eek2:

I got mine reattached at a windscreen place, cost me 20 bucks.

Windscreens o'brien here didnt want to know me, he reckons it was too much work

Thats when i wanted to break it in front of him, ring my insurance, and claim a free windscreen so he had to do it lol

with the sikaflex, also put a prop between the back seat and brake light. leave it for 24 hours and try to refrain from pumping the bass otherwise the vibration will just make it brittle again. I dont see what was soo hard if they used screws instead when the designed the interior. most people are having their brake lights falling off now and trying to fix it with fully sik a flex.

Araldite on the white clips.

Tried superglue but fell down, Araldite and half an hour and its still there.

Read somewhere that Araldite will fail at certain temperatures (this was AFTER I had done it) but its still there so how much truth there is to what I read I dont know....

Silastic and Araltide = superior

you would of been able to get it done free through insurance, but there is a few places that dont want to know you if the windows are smashed via vandalism..
went out one night with friends, come back and my windscreen was smashed in 3 places. was covered by insurance, but had to try 3 different places coz it was too dangerous, too many small glass fragments around.

Once its holding there, just put something there to prop it in place for a couple days to make sure it doesnt sag during the next couple hot days, you should be right then. I had a prop holding mine for almost about 3 days, just to be sure!

I used just silastic and that has been good for the last 6 months.

My windscreen was sandblasted and chipped and I get a free screen each year, so when it went in for a respray, insurance paid for someone to come take it out and come back and put a new one back in a few days later

on my diamante and im assuming veradas my light is bolted to the parcel tray and the carpet comes up in a mound to surround it, its not stuck to the rear window in any way. now i would say you guys have the holes for the attachment (they are slots so it can be adjusted) so you could get a verada rear light and carpet and you would never have the problem plus it can be removed and cleaned

yeah thats what mine orignally looked like, TE and TF had that, but when i went TJ rear, i liked the flat parcel shelf.

TH onwards had a row of LEDs in an assembly that attaches to the top of the rear window. So it is a bit tough to get back on.

If only mitsu had designed it so that it clipped onto the roof of the car instead of the glass. That certainly would have made more sense.

Another option is to get an LED brake light bar, velcro it to the parcel shelf and wire it into the brake light wiring:

Make sure the glass is cool when you do, it wont last if you try to stick it to hot glass
