if it is only very slight and doesnt register on the rev gauge then he is right, mine has a rough idle, you can feel it when sitting in drive through the steering wheel, and when idling. engine is 100%, i theorise its from the crank angle sensor. the ecu is constantly adjusting to it and this causes the idle prob. again just a theory. but if your problem is really bad and the rev gauge is moving then might be the isc or an intake leak somewhere.

Checked your PCVs?

Yeah, just keep replacing things until you find the REAL cause! I wonder how many perfectly good plugs and leads have been thrown out by people chasing a rough idle problem?

You could do what a sensible mechanic might do, with a poor idle, check that you have consistent compression on all cylinders.
As engines age the seal of the valves on their seats becomes less efficient, or valves may start sticking. This is most noticeable at idle. A compression test will tell you if you have a head problem or not. Next thing is to visually check cam lobes for wear, then check for erratic ignition wander with a timing light.

Strange,

My 3.0 with 150 000km on the clock has a perfectly smooth idle at 750rpm. Not one miss, hiccup or even sign of being 'rough'.

So no, its not 'normal'.

Moving along.

Take off your dizzy cap, check for signs of wear on the contact points, check wear in the rotor button aswell. Together last time I replaced them was around $50 for the rotor button and $160 for the dizzy cap.

First check, no use replacing everything if thats not the problem.

A check with a timing light will pick up any distributor problems. That, a multimeter and a compression gauge are excellent diagnostic tools. Well worth the investment. Less costly than a new distributor cap and rotor arm bought on the off chance they will help.

PS My distributor cap, rotor arm and plug leads are still the original at 237,000 km. I won't replace any of them unless they are the CAUSE of a problem.

yeah mine sits perfectly at 700 rpm and doesnt actually miss, just has a bit of vibration, then again just remembered my drivers side engine mount is starting to split on one side so that could be it. i only thought it was a very common thing as the dealership by me said it was a common complaint with an idle reset giving a short term fix. i suppose i could be picky, noone else ive told can feel wat i mean ha ha and i suppose been a V6 it would have a bit of throb lol

i did a compression test back two cylinders had 160 the other back one and front had 180
going to put dizzy from my other car on this one to see if its that

mine is fine in neutral but is awful in drive. Poly drivers side mount didnt help with vibration lol
