OK, this has been covered in threads before, so pls bare with me. I have a stock exhaust except for a rear muffler upgrade to the factory sports muffler / straight through fitted to the VRX models. It is very quiet. For those who have done it or heard the end result, if I were to remove the resonator/hot dog with straight piping, would it be too droney with the sports muffler? I want a little extra volume w/out having to swap the rear muffler.
Thanks in advance...

Don't do it... seriously lol
I did the same and ended up with this disgustingly tinny resonant noise up the top end. Got it put back on along with a varex the following week.
Case in point, get a louder rear muffler.

Thanks Lucifer. Still, I'd rather retain the muffler at this stage and not change over. I'm taking the car in this Thurs so maybe I'll have a chat with the guys at the workshop about my exhaust.

When I fitted some extractors the note loudened up a bit.

How about fitting a dif resonator altogether - something a little larger or smaller? Would this lead to greater noise w/out being annoying? I seem to recall fitment of a dif resonator to the Ralliart Magna precisely to achieve a louder note... but not sure exactly what was done.

I had my resonator taken out, not much difference
And yes I do own a VRX

Yeah I got a hotdog fitted instead of my centre muffler after I got it taken out. Sounds a bit tinny when it's cold but I think that might be the stainless rear muffler I've got.

I got my middle muffler taken out,
Has the tinniest sound between 1500 to 3000 rpm,
Sounds soo bad.

How much power is lost through the stock resonator?...

I would have guessed SFA, as with the exception of the rear muffler, people don't seem to get performance gains by doing a cat-back system.

This is because the pipe diameter is the right size for it's application and unless you have a bog stock V6, no gains will be made
the link is to help anyone (hopefully) understand a little more on the subject

How much roughly to get a resonator put back in?
it was $50 to get rid of it.

i made my own cat back exhaust, excluding the center muffler, and used a very high flow rear exhaust similar to the ralliart one. i used 2.3inch (ID) GALVONISED pipe, the actual pipe is 2mm thick. i hope it wont ever break. :woot:
i have a terible rasp when the motor is cold, but it does down allot after 15 mins. i am going to get a hot dog to put instead of the middle muffler that i took out.
my exhaust made a very noticeable difference in high end torque, and an overall improvement in the feel and power of the car. (not comparable to a sc, but i noticed it, and it made a difference)

No. The answer is no. Get it off your car now. I'm a boilermaker. Do you know what gasses come off that stuff when it gets hot? Very poisonous. Welders wears respirators when welding galv pipe, PFC, UB's etc for a reason. And a 2mm sidewall? Make a bull bar from it, not an exhaust.
What you want is aluminium coated mild steel exhaust tube (about 1mm sidewall), or stainless exhaust tube.
Cheers, Greg.

I run a TW with a lukey, had the resonator cut out, but had the sense to keep, it sounded terrible, raspy and tinny, Now its on again.
A high flow Cat made it sound Shedloads better.

If you still have the resonator it'll probably be like $50 again... If not you're up for cost of resonator + install. Probably about $100 tops?
