Just a general question for any budding Auto Electricians, where would be the best place to tap a fused wire for additional Accessory devices? Would the cig lighter suffice, or is there another better location?

Also, does anyone know if there is any existing power in the boot/trunk area that can be tapped into?

Depends what you want to hook up.
The only power in the boot I know if is the boot light. However that only has power when boot is open.

I've got a few things tabbed into the ciggy wire, but you dont wanna hook too much to it. Wire is not that thick and you don't want to draw too much current from it.

Might be best to just run a line from battery through the firewall if you have a few things you wanna connect

As far as i know the power for the light in the boot is constant and it is only the boot swicth that provides the earth.i have run my rear c pillar lights off the boot light power,so you can use that...

Thanks for your input guys...if the ciggy wire is not up to the job, is there somewhere to splice into where the fuse box is near the gas pedal? Might go away and study the schematics...some bed time reading...lol

Use a relay mate, Triggered by the boot light.

Run power into the boot from your cig lighter (15A circuit?) and run it to pin 30. Pin 85 You run to earth. Pin 86 is connected (spliced) by your boot light and Pin 87 goes to whatever you are running.

This way you get that ciggy circuit operating only when the boot opens (and when ACC is on of course)

Edit*

Use a standard 4 pin relay

if you need extra power for the front, the loom behind the ashtray has a connector for hands free and this can be tapped into easily for a second socket.

as said before bill depends whats going to be run. if its low amperage splice onto the ciggy. other option is to run some 6mm from front to rear, splice a wire onto the 6mm and feed a relay switched by the acc and then fit a socket in the rear. under engine bay fit a circuit breaker or fuse.

i was actually just thinking of this today.

so if you were to run a cable from the battery, straight to where you want it (like your power for your sub and amp) would you need to chuck say the same fuse you used for your amp power cord? then just hook what ever you wanted up to it?
i want to get some lights inside the car going but dont want the cig lighter power holding me back. Do you have to put anything in to convert it from battery to a safer voltage?

1) no just work out how much amps the items you are going to use will draw and fit the next size up fuse e.g. engel fridge at peak might draw 20 amps so put a 25amp fuse. or chuck say a 25amp circuit braker in.

2)shouldnt need it. your factory ciggy is battery volts.

can you buy a circuit breaker kit/module thing or do you have to built it yourself?

thanks for your help btw, im quiet noobish when it comes to electrical things like this :(

I can tell :P
A circuit breaker is simply a resettable fuse. if it pops, you just push the button back down, instead of having to replace it.

If you wanna do something electrical just PM me presti and I'll help you through it
