I use my Magna for work and do a heap of miles. Has anyone had any experience with the 3.5l on LPG. Good or bad idea?

Cheers

Many here have done it. Prefered method would be an injected setup. More dollars for injected but you can put an older system on as well without any issues. My reccomendation is do plugs and leads first then do the conversion to eliminate any possibility of backfires with the older systems.
Me i have a Pajero with the injected setup and i haven't any issues with it. Also have a Fairlane with a non injected setup which also works well no issues so far.
Re performance cant notice any negatives on either (must be old age). Best part you realize how much you will be saving once you refill the lpg tank for the first time lol.
Some more people will chime in with their experience soon enough.

Have a KH Verada Wagon on gas since January of this year [only the normal mixer type] and no problems.
Cost $2700 to put on got back $2000 but is now $1750 and dropping.
Did not change leads or plugs .
They damaged my air con line as the converter goes very close to it[but they did fix it]
Starts on petrol and instantly goes to gas.
Because of the way they go into electrics the Traction Control light is always on when running on gas.
this is normal
Costs me around $8.50 to $9.00 per 100 kms just driving around.
On trip went from Narre Warren to Bendigo and back and cost $25.
Only problem in a wagon as the tank goes in spare wheel well the lift up section is raised about 20ml and had to get stronger rear springs.

aye if your running the k's then definetely go gas! Got a mixer system on my kj. Cheap as..especially since you will be driving..alot. I only seem to get about 300k...ISH out of a tank though..think that maybe thanks to my errattic 'your pissed me off with your driving so now its my turn' mentality. Only downside with a mixer, for me anyway, is the power loss, well i seem to notice it. BUT to get back some decent killerwasps just switch it back onto petrol and your laughing. To counteract that the simple option is just to go injected.

I got a mixer setup on TJ, power loss.... ill have to say yes & i can feel it. But its only noticiable at high revs when i give it a hit, lets say from 4500 up. Its also due to mixer taking up large portion of air intake & thus restricting air flow. For day to day driving its quite perfect, vapour injection will cost you 2k more & if you keeping your car for a long time its probably a good idea.

With LPG you also do get more torque at earlier revs which makes start stop dirving better then on petrol. Main benefit ofcourse is paying $40 a week instead of $90-100 for petrol. To fix air flow problem i have installed CAI also put in extractors & new cat back. Worked very well & LPG consuption reduced by about 10%

if the KH has traction control then it is advised to get VSi because mixers can backfire with traction control active.... some fitters actually disable the traction control when the car is running on gas

i got VSi on my TJ exec in 3/2009 ($4800 w/toroidal tank - $3000 in grants = $1800) and im glad i did so far saved $650 with a balance of $1150 until im even in 8/2010, power is very similar and low down torque is improved, plus it is seamless on changeover and there is no compromise on either fuel

Had my TJ sedan done about 12 months ago, Tartarini closed loop with vapour mixer. Bought a laptop adapter so I can tune the gas which I have only had to do once. Stalls occaisionally when changing over to gas at about 2000rev. Saved heaps on fuel though.
Iaan what brand of springs did you go for and what was their approximate cost? The **** end of mine is starting to drag with the extra weight of the tank and the heavy duty towbar on the rear.

Checked out the Lovels and Kings Springs sites was going to cost me $220-$250 for Springs without installation

went to Pedders in Dandenong and they wanted $295 fitted

an Exhaust guy in Berwick got Pedders in and charged me $230 Fitted

it was $180 for springs and $50 for fitting [couldnt be bothered to do it myself when only wanted $50 for fitting]

no problems with them good ride and doesnt sag in rear.

if you want his number let me know

Ive put both my TH Sedan and my wife's TW Wagon on Parnell VSI (Vapour Sequential Injection) system, which means it is the injection type. Was given the advice to put this more expensive kit on as the std mixer types may backfire, and if they backfire could cause damage to air metering sensors (or something like that - anyway - expensive). The injection gas gave no noticable loss in power. The economy is marginally less than petrol litre for litre, Im talking maybe 5%. Both cars cheap to run!! Have had no issues with the cars since then, they run great. Cost $4000 for sedan, and $4500 for wagon. Both got the $2000 rebate which helped. At currrent fuel prices and current rebate you should pay back your out of pocket in around 35000km.

Starts on petrol, changes over to gas automatically.

Points to consider comparing to mixer/aspirated type
- better economy with injection type.
- No backfire issues which will be costly
- Greener, as all gas is burned in the right/optimum ratio.
- No / negligible loss of power.

Downside - you do lose boot/ rear compartment space as the tank either takes up 1/3 of the boot or displaces the spare wheel and it ends up in the rear compartment.

Cheers.
