I just ordered DBA 4000 series rotors and braided brake lines from Hoppers Stoppers ($500 all up!) and went to call Universal Spares in Sydney to order the QFM HP-X pads, but they said it was a 4-6 week wait :wtf:

What are my alternatives for brake pads that are like the QFM's (good bite, low dust apparently) and match well with the 4000 series rotors?

Have you tried any other places for the QFM pads?
I just bought some today for my SS from www.brakewest.com.au (VIC)
Maybe also try www.gslrallysport.com (QLD)
If some places have stock you might get lucky

Mate - I have a good mitsu mechanic mate who races and pushes cars down the 1/4 mile for a few years now, and his recommendation is get Bendix pads. He says the QFM's are rubbish and to steer clear of them. Get a pair of bendix pads instead - they're popular and widely used for a reason.

Yeh that's about the standard price for a front or rear set
For my SS i bought a front and rear set of QFM HP-X for $160 delivered

I use the Bendix General CT pads now on standard rotors with single piston calipers. They have good initial bite and fade resistance but are not a performance pad. The Ultimates dust up like mofo's and I want to steer clear of that.

QFM have nothing but good comments until you posted, did he say why they were rubbish and what model were they?

Your mate may have had bad experiences with them but that doesn't mean they're a bad pad. I used to have Bendix pads on my RAV4 which were horrible. I switched to QFM pads after Bendix for my RAV4, Verada and now my SS. Doesn't mean Bendix are bad as many people use them, they were just bad from what i experienced first hand. Heaps of people on this forum use QFM pads too.

He said the QFM's were no good for performance, instead the EBC's are much better. Wear out fairly fast but it has superior braking power.

Green Stuff are just as bad for dust. I am willing to compromise a bit of performance for reduced dust

Depends which QFM pad he was referring to as there are 2 main compounds, HP-X and A1RM:

QFM's Performance Street pads fall into two compounds. The first is the HPX pad which is the perfect choice for street cars looking for excellent braking performance whilst retaining all the qualities of a good street pad. The HPX pads are ideal for high performance street cars looking for higher working temperatures with reduced fade, and also for Four Wheel Drives or vehicles looking to enhance their towing capacity or safety. The HPX pads unlike many pads in this performance range are virtually dust free, whilst maintaining low rotor wear.

QFM's second high performance street pad is the A1RM compound and provides QFM with its club sport track pad. It is ideal for high performance street cars that take to the track to test the limits, whilst still being a streetable pad. The A1RM is ideal for club level rally and hill climb where brakes are required right from the first corner!

HP-X are rated to 550 degrees celcius so you wouldn't use them for track (if that's what your mate means by performance)
A1RM are rated to 780 degrees celcius so yes for track work

I also had EBC Greenstuff on my Rada and i found they braked great but squealed more than a pig and i had to clean my wheels of dust every 2 days. Got rid of them for QFM instead.
