Well........ I finally got my hands on a Diamante front bar, only problem is I had to buy one with a whole car attached!
This is now in my possession, and unfortunately as much as I love my KS parras, I am thinking about putting the headlight & grille setup on my car :ninja:
It's a 1992 (i think) KR ei, drives beautifully, suspension is nice and soft and brakes are great
Anyway, got a problem, it's stuck in 3rd!!!!! Not sure if its mechanical or just in 'limp mode'. The last owner hadnt used it much lately but hadn't serviced it in the last 2 YEARS! The transmission oil wasnt even registering on the dipstick, so I stopped at a servo on the way home and filled it up with some transmission fluid to get me home.
I tried an ECU reset (I think i left the battery off for long enough), but not sure what else I can do. The engine light isnt coming on, no flashing neutral light or anything, only other symptom is that reverse has a nice THUD when putting it into gear. Putting the gear selector in 2nd or 1st doesn't help, and overdrive isn't engaging either.
I have spare ECU & TCU's here from my KS's, should I try putting them in? Will they even fit?
Thanks in advance

I think they had to cut the top &/or bottom chrome surrounds though.

Nah not going to do that, ill do the full swap if I swap it over, and copy tuffy with the ts clear indicators cut to fit in to the corners, to match the fresnel lenses on the headlights.....

Gotta love the paint on those Diamante front bars... my white exec that I bought with a D bar attached had shocking paint on the bar itself too.

Out of interest what trans fluid did you put in? If its not specified compatible with Mitsubishi gearboxes, get it flushed asap.

lol there was only one on the shelf where we were, it was a dxtron III or something. I called my mechanic and asked it if was ok and he said 'to get you home' it would be fine (as there was NOTHING in the box) but yeah its gunna be flushed quicksmart before this car goes anywhere else

one thing to check with the tcu is the fuse. Easy way to check is if your gear lights are coming up on the dash, that means the fuse is ok. i now have 5 tcus as spares because i didnt check the basics

The paint on the front bar is not original, but a poor backyard job. If you look at the "chrome" strip on the bar it is white too, unlike the chrome strips on the side and rear of the car. If the person who painted it couldn't be bothered spending 20 minutes with half inch masking tape to mask off the chrome strip, he obviously was too lazy to prepare the bar before painting it. Grrrrrr @ lazy painters!!

Peter,
Does the 2nd Gen PDF in "Workshop manuals" thread give any suggestions on the "stuck-in-third" possibilities? I know the 3rd Gen PDF is a lot more easy to navigate, and has "troubleshoot" ideas which focus on common or easy-to-fix possibilities, then progresses to the more "out there" possible causes.
Hopefully the 2nd Gen workshop manual has similar good info? Am at work tonite, so I can't do much reading!

So we flushed the tranny with some proper oil, and swapped the TCU out of one of my KS's and what do you know, we have 3 gears again :)
Thanks for your help guys

Do you accept Zimbabwe dollars? Or would analogue clocks be your preferred currency to trade in?
