Going back to basics, your C-pillar lamps have 3 wires, right?

One is for earth.

One is for "constant 12V" for when the light switch is operated manually - constant 12v would mean C-pillar lamps stay on if switched, even if car is turned-off, parked, locked. OR you could use "accessory 12v" on this wire, by using "switched/accessory 12v" would mean lamps only operate on the C-pillar switch while key in Ign and switched to Acc or On.

Third wire on lamps is for "Doors Open" power. This way the C-pillar lamps will come on when a door is opened, the car is remotely unlocked etc.

You have these 3 wires on opposite sides of the rear cabin.

I found a point in the metal of the C-pilar (behind each lamp) where I could fit the Earth wire with a short self-tapper screw. On each side. So, we now have 2 wires sorted and 4 to go.

Match-up the "doors" wire from each C-pillar lamp, and match-up the "Manual On" wire from each C-pillar lamp - join these wires from one side of car to the other, in a way that lets you run the joining wire onwards to wherever you choose to get the power supply.

There are 2 main schools of thought for getting the power: from centre roof lamp (dropping the headlining, most likely), or from the drivers A-pillar (means you can run wires under the edge of roof lining only, this seemed easier to me and was the way I did it).
Some have also got power from the loom in the boot, but that doesn't supply any "power when doors open", so for my money you go with either centre-lamp or drivers A-pillar.

Run wires, connect using solder or crimp connectors (best to solder these as well). I used crimp connectors, cause they can be disconnected if needed, or swapped etc. Use insulated connectors, or make sure connections are insulated to avoid electrical shorts. Test how the lamps behave, if they operate as expected then fit the lamps and trim-panels back in place.

The simple way now lol
Grab power from your boot light, this is a red with a black trace wire. THis has constant power and if done correctly will have lights come on when doors are open or when switch is used

Earth, body

Trigger, door switch on each side

Total job with soldering, heat shrink etc should not take you more than 20 mins once the seat is out

Dont bother with running from the int light, it is the same circuit as the boot light anyway

Well,i may as well put my 2 cents worth in as well.Mine is a bit more fiddly, but at the end of the day ,it works for me.

So,yes ,one wire is for earth, doesnt matter where you earth it,just need an earth.
Now,power,i ran mine off the boot light,so there is your constant power. As Elwyn stated...bring your two common power wires to a single point some where to hook up to power.

So,now ,to wire up the third wire ,which is the door switch wire...i removed the rear door switch on each door and inserted a terminal and fed this to the third wire of the lights....

So with this set up,you have a constant on/off and a door opening activated circuit. What doesnt happen wiring this way,is the lamps coming on with the remote..but..

Well,it appears the guru has got in before me..:eek2: .but its good to see we are both on the same track....:facejump: we were probably writing it at the same time, but i grabbed a coffee, and his was there...

anyone got a pic of where they go?
my cars already got the wiring there so all i have to do is cut a hole in the trim :D

While we are on the subject I have noticed some people posting they are looking for a set of verada trims with the holes in them. The lines for the cutout are actually imprinted on the back of the standard trims, as they came out of the same tooling. So, if you have a drill and a set of files you can make a set with cutouts without buying new ones.

Madmagna/Magna-by-Design,

When you run wires your way, do the lamps come on with any door - or just the corresponding rear door (ie: the door switch on that side)?

Personally, I get minor jollies walking across the carpark and watching the two rear pillar lamps come on with the remote unlock. (Of course, they are also fully-sik ultra-white LEDs, for further bonus jollies).

Well..im guessing you mean me....yes..its only the corresponding door that works when you open them, and they dont come on with the remote because they arent wired into that ciruit..

...and i get my thrills when i hit my remote a see my "photo lab" light up when the RED l.e.d strips i have at the top of the rear and front screens, footwells and key light, (and lets not forget the ultra-violet one in the centre light-wicked when you have white on a night) light up .....:woot::woot:.

....and then i open the doors to fully sik clear door lamps with 12 led white light and a under door led to show the way...talk about bright...and my latest mod....a 50 cm strip of smd led on the front headlights...

Michael, thanks for that! Any pics of the SMD strip on the headlamps?

I am wondering about a Red LED strip facing out the rear screen of my KJ (mounted at back of parcel shelf), cos I put a "caines" rear/grandpa shade on the Verada, which kind of obscures the high-mount brake light. have bought a strip, bt not played with wiring it up to brakes yet.

When I cut out mine on my TH there were no marks on the back of the plastic. I do however have a template (kindly provided by Schnell) you can use, just PM your mailing address and I will post it over. Also if aany one else want to use these just PM yur details to whoever has them and let them circulate.
Cheers

Michael, i am DOUBLY guilty, cos I bought the last TWO grandpa wings from Caine (really wanted 3 but his boss made him sell one while I was still driving over), one has gone on my TJ Sports (has spoiler, no issue with brake light) and the other is looking noice but obscuring the high-mount brake light on my KJ. Dad's TJ Exec missed-out on grandpa wing due to caine having to sell one of mine (boo hoo).

I dunno how to join the 'division' - am a bit of a forum/VB/etc noob, I'm afraid.

Gulp....guilty...I think I bought that one, Caine told me it was sold but he gave it to me anyway, since it was the last one.....I feel bad now....NOT lol
