hey guys.
My front driver and passenger window regulators are real slow (im guessing they are ageing and getting gay) so i was wondering if it was possible to just swap the regulators from the rears into the fronts? (putting rear right into front right and rear left into front left) because my rears are quiet fast.

cheers in advance,

Nah, the rears are a different mechanism.... have you tried using sillicon spray on the fronts?

Edit: Although it might work if you swapped everything (All the rail things) from the rear doors to the front, but im pretty sure the rears open and close differently so its prob not possible..

yeah id give the rails a good lube up first before ripping your doors apart

so just pull off the inside interior and lube up the arms, can it be any lube?
would it be easy to purchase new ones or are they expensive? i could go to jollies but you never know how well they are working unless you buy them with a warrenty, and even then they might not replace it

also, take the main driver side control unit for the P/windows... to your local auto electrician and get them to give it a clean out.. (like clean all the contacts on the switches etc.....)

i learnt this myself as the other day i got to work and my drivers window wouldent go up..... and its because the switch wasnt providing enough power to the motor hhaha.

now it goes up as fast as my mums (6 month old) getz's power windows

all you have to do.. is the main one.. and the others arnt used that much and they do not have a masssssiiiiiiveeee build up of carbon on them.

it cost me 60 bucks, including alot of troubleshooting for the auto elec to do this for me...

switches will not control the speed, the speed is due to age and the factory lubrication drying out

You should be able to lubricate them again unless the stainless cable has been damaged then it is a throw away unit

Sillicon spray works welll...

Silicone Spray would be useful on the rubber door seals that the glass must slide against (above the waist line, outside the car), as well as the channels the glass runs in (inside the doors).

For the mechanism itself, a grease would be better -WD40 is likely to dry out or possibly dissolve/wash the remaining old grease. You want something with some "staying power" = maybe that spray-can White Lithium grease?

hahha that makes me laugh.

i just had my master switch cleaned out by an auto sparky and the window is about a third faster

so your saying by cleaning a simple on/ off switch your windows are faster? GTOF

the contact points within the switch were burnt out and had heaps of that black stuff (cant think of what it is called) between the contact points.

i know it sounds weird.. but it really made a big difference

It would have to be the power connection that wasnt connecting properly coz it was dirty. Obviously better connection = more power = faster regulator, hence why when you put all 4 windows down at once, they go slower coz there is less current/power for each (Well in our commodore anyway)
