Well on a very similar but seemingly worse note than my previous thread http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63670 I got under my car to do an oil change today, and wouldn't you know it, another oil leak!
The car's now done 203000kms and I did an oil change as well as front and rear rocker cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals about 10,000kms ago...

Theres a fair bit of oil down there and the level has dropped down to just above minimum on the dipstick however I haven't noticed any decrease in fuel consumption or performance and the car doesn't blow smoke... Any ideas what it could be? Pics below, thanks in advance!

Annese ol' pal, give it a good de-greasing first then check again for leaks now that you are aware of it.

Crank/cams seals?
Bingo apparently... :doubt:

Just took it to my mechanic and he put it up on the hoist to have a look and he thinks that may be it, which isn't good (for my plans anyway)...

Basically the car is due for the 200k timing belt etc. service now anyway so it wouldn't cost much more to fix this at the same time but I was hoping to put this off for another 6 months because I was then planning on dropping a new engine in (was hoping for a 6G75) and there's no use spending $800-1000 on this engine...

So basically my options are,

A) do the major service, waste about $1000 and delay the new engine
or
B) Let the problem go, keep degreasing etc and keep an eye on the oil level and hope like hell the timing belt doesnt get affected and let go
or
C) Put the new engine in sooner than expected (would probably have to be a 6G74 and have to go on my credit card because I cant afford it yet)

To top it all off me and a few mates are meant to be taking my car on a 2500km trip in 11 days time. My mechanic advised me to take off the top timing belt cover and check to see if theres any oil on the belt, if there's not it should be fine for the trip and just keep an eye on it, but if there is oil on it not to take it because as I already knew if the timing belt ****s up boom goes my engine possibly stuck in the middle of nowhere lol

edit: oh and I took the cover off and had a look, looks fine but i'll post up a pic in a minute...

it does get quite a thrashing altho it still shouldn't be leaking *engine conversion*???, you will have to fix this problem if you want to drive it interstate??

Oy I don't thrash my baby, she gets driven spiritedly and only when the engine's fully warmed up and everything. Just caus you drive like a grandma :P

Now back OT all seems to be fine underneath the cover so i'm thinking I might just give it a good degrease on the bottom of the engine and see how much oil builds up over the next week or so.

I'm thinking i'll just keep an eye on it and go with option B for the time being...

It could be the rocker cover seals mate. I had some new ones put on my Magna and they didn't quite seal properly and leaked till I had them re-sitted and they've been fine since. If it's the crank/cam seals, and you're getting a new engine soon, just make sure you have oil in your car and you should be right. It'll just keep chewing through oil. Don't let it run dry tho or it could seize. If the cambelt snaps, well you are getting a new engine anyway.

Just deleted a host of posts that are not helpful, very dissapointed that some still have no idea of what the tech section is for

To the OP
You have several issues here,
*your cam and dist seals are leaking
*Would say cam seals poss leaking as well
*maybe rocker cover gaskets but oil looks to be running from the front and rear around

Now, to fix, I would say that 99% chance your breathers are blocked, especially the balance breather that goes from cover to cover. Further to this a few seals and all would be fixed. As Ange said though, clean up the engine if for no other reason but to make the job of the mechanic more pleasant.

If you want to come over for a drive mate, I charge about that amount for the full 200k service, not just a timing belt and a few seals lol

I have also moved to third gen section as where belongs

Thanks a lot for the reply Mal. I think i'm gunna leave it for the time being and keep a close eye on the oil level. Is it a hard job to unblock the breathers or would I be able to give it a go myself?

I will be in touch with you in a few months hopefully though to discuss the engine conversion...
