Basically I wanted my two amps together on the right side of the boot, but due to the size both of them, they dont fit next to one and other, so I'm thinking of putting one amp upside down under the parcel shelf in the boot.

Basically I'm after any advice on how to do this etc..

I also want to know if having the amp upside down will cause any issues? and also which amp would be best placed upside down (mono or 4ch). I was thinking the mono as it means less wires exposed.

Thanks Guys

dont mount any amp upside down ever, because it cant dispurse of the hot air built up inside the amp. A few people i know have killed amps due to this

That's very dependent on the amp. Fan based cooling systems won't have an issue with being upside down, its the silent heat sink types that you'll kill the wrong way up.

some can and some can't
if it was me, i wouldnt mount any amp upside down even if it can

What if you were to create some kind of mount so you could mount it the right way up, but still attached to the parcel shelf?

mmmmmm..... its a Pioneer GM-6300F 4ch
I've thought about putting it under the parcel shelf but the right way up

i think i might just mount it to the floor right up the back and in the corner

if its a small amp I wouldnt worry. We had an amp under the parcel shelf in the TR installed back in 94 I think, and lasted ever till I took it out in 05 i think, so if a 15yo amp can do it, a new one certainly can

Dont think it'd be legal either so keep that in mind...From what I know its illegal to cut/drill into parcel shelves.

Pretty sure its only if the parcel shelf is extensivly modified, i.e. holes cut out for speakers, tapping screws into them will be fine

dont think im going to risk it...
ill just put it on the boot floor for time being until it shits me

just a question, what is the recommended glue for gluing carpet to MDF (to lazy to search through numerous threads)

Mr_Roberto

lol having it out of the way underneath your shelf will give you less grief then it rolling around on the floor getting struck by other objects flying around the floor lol

contact adhesive, I find the spray stuff shit, I use the liquid form and paint it on.

haha yeh but it will be up the back and mounted to some MDF so it wont be too much of an issue, i never really use the boot anyway

what glue would you suggest? because i have heard mixed things about spray on glue

thats cause your using the shit stuff ;)
stuff my mate can get is about 80 bucks a can, we done his whole boot install using this stuff and it stick like shit to a blanket

but yeah contact adhesive is pretty much the same thing, only sticks better
you will find it in the paint section at bunnings where all the liquid nails, gap filler and assorted glues are
its made by shellys and comes in a green tin i think, might be blue and white

 If people are so keen to mount the amps up there, why not use some L brackets - attach to existing bolts - and make an amp rack....

Amp is right way up with plenty of cooling and won't effect boot space to much.

You can mount digital circuit amps upside down. As they have much lower heat production you can mount them whatever way you want.

how do you know if its a digital circuit amp?
I know nothing about this sort of stuff

its a Pioneer GM-6300F 4ch??

That's not Class D (digital)

Mr İharisma
19-09-2009, 05:33 PM
No its a Class AB amp. Generally speaking, mono blocks are the more likely to be digital.

Joe Bellissimo

Mr Charisma is correct, its AB.

Why not make up a shelf and bolt that to the underside of the parcel tray carpet it and put amp right way up on it. if that makes sense, well it does in my head. [__insert_amp_here___] right way up if that makes sense. ok well im sorta confused now. oh well.
