It appears that the TMR runs a Koni coilover set up. Does anyone know much about this? Is it height and damper adjustable like others such at Tein or is it a set unit. Does anyone run this?

Coil overs are quiet easy to make out of your original struts if your keen! The threaded section ,collars,springs and retainers are generally readily available.You basically just remove the original spring seat section off the original strut and weld the threaded section in its place.Its not that hard if your half handy and don't mind having a go! You can even shorten the strut alittle fit a shorter adjustable shocker that will run super low and still have plenty of travel.

Koni actually do a conversion collar for coilovers. I am interested in the height and damper adjustable versions. I know that they are more $$ but they offer far better handling and flexability. Trying to justify costs here lol

Yeah I hear ya! No way could i justify coilovers for the family truckster. But if you convert yourself? maybe!

I am not that sure that there would be enough difference in that compared with lowered and heavy shocks. Do you know whether anyone has done this conversion?

Yeah for sure,by fitting the treaded section,collars and the smaller diameter springs to your stripped down factory struts you are turning them into adjustable height coilovers just like the bought ones.Its the shock and the spring rate you choose thats gonna make the difference,have done this on an early RX7 years ago,worked a treat!

I'm pretty sure that's what witewalzs described. A friend who has a rally car says that's what a lot of rally teams use since it's a lot cheaper to do themselves rather than spending $3k on a set of complete coil over shocks. And they're generally welding their car back together after each outing anyway :)
Personally, I'm a bit sceptical about these being used in public, but if they are engineer approved then I'd be happy.

+1 I did a 260Z I used to own, Fulcrum Suspension here in Brisabne did it for me. Don't ask me how much, it was a million years ago!

Would it have been better than the lowered + upgraded struts as opposed to upgraded struts and coilover conversion.

The main reason many streeters turn to adj coilovers is the ride hide adjustment.But for racing they also give you more room in the wheel arch(spring much smaller in diameter than stock) to run much wider tyres with out fouling on the spring.They are lighter, easier to change springs quickly plus you can use different types/rates of springs(rising rate etc) in a combination on the same strut to achieve a vast array of shock characteristics.Top race teams have shock dyno's to test all this! But unless your streeter is going to be used occasionally for track days, spending big$$$ is a waste of money me thinks! But again,if you want the ride height adjustability and your capable of making your own to make it cost effective then why not!

Yep thats why I did the 260Z just so I could adjust the height to whatever I wanted. I had some heavy springs wound with Koni adjustable inserts & custom huge swaybars.
I'd say this is what TMR have done, just went & had 20 sets made up.

I wonder how many $ Koni would want. I Nice set of progressive rate springs would be good if you could get them. The Konis themselves would make a major improvement and if it isnt that much hassle to put the collars on then it wouldn't be that much more than whacking in lowered springs, except if they are too high or low you can adjust them.

yep I reckon you are spot on....
the fronts make a bit of a rattle...(and can easily be misdiagnosed as rack instability.)

Yeah I thought I had some rack knock,some journo's documented it in the early days, but turned out to be the sway bar bushes.Another well documented issue!

Yeah I had the same problem on my previous car. I had chewed the sway bar bushes out and they were knocking. Never a nice sound.
