just a quicky as this has had me thinking about it for acouple of days now
but anyways,
say if you locked your car at night and came back to it in the morning to find it wont unlock cause the negative terminal wire has come off causing the car to break the circuit
just wanna know if you can still unlock the car with the key so you can pop the bonnet to fix it?
just to keep this alittle more simplier, i've got aftermarket terminals as the bolt on the negative lost its thread (crossed threaded i think, wouldn't tighten up)
thanks guys

I would say you can still unlock it with they key because its not electrical to unlock with a key.

You could open the drivers door with the key, but on the second twist (to activate the two stage unlock) I suspect that the other doors will not unlock as there is no power to the central locking.

Yeah man for sure, from memory though the central locking won't work only the drivers door will unlock.
EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

Dude get a new battery terminal, or take it to an auto elec who can solder on a proper one onto your earth cable.

ummm it is a new terminal as said, cant be soilded as the wire is held in by a allen key

Okay then. Well make sure its tight then, You wont have a drama. Tight = try to rip out of terminal, doesnt come out = tight.

ok the main problem i'm having here is that due to the new optima bluetop the extra terminals i have to stretch the wires more
i've tried moving wires and freeing them but still seems like its gonna come loose
i'll have another go tomorrow to maybe extend the wire that goes into the terminal

its tight but i dont think theres enough "meat" that goes into the terminal for a good bite

is it the cable coming loose from the terminal or the terminal coming off the battery?
if its the cable just earth it straight to the car body and make up new earth cables eg like Barry earthing kit problem solved
if its the terminal u might have 2 positive terminals, the negative terminal on battery is generally a little smaller

its the wire not the terminal
i've got the extra bit that sits on the battery
yeah its the ground to the chassy thats causing the problems, as its twisting the wires
i've got a 0ga wire from the terminal to the chassy so might remove that one
