Why are these keys/remotes so damn expensive? Over $250 for a key/remote from MMA and $20 US for a key that has been cut but able to reprogram the remote. I presume these are easy to swap the key part over then.

Just found this website that has new Blanks https://www.ikeyless.com/vehicles/mitsubishi/galant/2006/product83533

Here is another question. Does anyone know if you can change the key on the remote with a new blank???

Just had a look at some of the blank on the US keys comparing them to mine. THEY LOOK DIFFERENT!!:iough:

Just found this website that has new Blanks https://www.ikeyless.com/vehicles/mitsubishi/galant/2006/product83533

Looking at the images of the US Galant key blanks, it seems that the grooves of the 2006 galant blade don't match the 380 key (or mine at least, which is a March 2006 model).

In comparing
http://www.autotransponder.com/2006_2007_mitsubishi_eclipse_galant_remote_key_mn1 41381?category_id=1400
to
http://www.autotransponder.com/mid2007_2008_mitsubishi_eclipse_galant_remote_key_ mn141545?category_id=1400
the blade of the latter matches my existing 380 remote. Unfortunately it seems the one that I need is US$140 (+ US$12.95 shipping) so all in all we aren't saving that much compared to the extortionate prices MMAL is charging.
I'm guessing for the $250 Mitsubishi would include programming also?

If you just need the plastic cover, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400073195207&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT might be a good option for you, although a little pricey at a little over US$50 shipped. Note that the blade on this kit is the same as the first link above also.

I cant see why it wouldn't be possible to buy one of these pre-cut US Galant remote keys from Ebay US, and replace the blade with one from any old locksmith. Surely they would have them. Or, worst case, buy one of these keys http://www.autotransponder.com/2007-2010_mitsubishi_lancer_galant_eclips_outlander_end eavor_key?category_id=1400 and transplant the blade into the remote section of the key.

I wonder if autotransponder.com would give us some kind of discount if we were to all get our heads together and order a bunch of these keys in bulk?

Guessing wrong on the programming unfortunately, that is extra!! They sure don't miss you!! The one that I have bought says it is brand new. Now if it comes to me already cut I wont be overly happy as to me that would be second hand. It would be worth a go for the discount on numbers.

Extra? Oh thank you Mitsubishi. Tempted to buy from the U.S. just to spite them then.

Yeah it sure looks like the key you bought is already cut, judging by the photos. Still, I think you got a bargain at ~$30 (and if you don't want it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands at whatever it cost you, because my plastic is buggered at they keyring section like the other guys here).
If it is cut, I'm wondering how he can justify the "Brand New" tag? Perhaps it has never been used, and was a miss-cut? (Although this would imply that it isn't as easy as I'm hoping to just transplant the key blade, because surely they would have done so if the RRP for these is ~US$130)?

Also, do we have any "security professionals" in the house? Because this mob have them http://www.lockmasters.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=51065 but they apparently will only sell to security professionals. I've sent them an email asking the price, and whether they will just ship to a "security professional" in Australia, so I'll see how that goes.

I had a similar problem with my corolla keys

I now have a aftermarket key that looks like a high end euro with the flip out blade

I wish I could have the same with the 380

Does the transponder come out seperate to the key as you may be able to find a different blank with a stronger link

Hehe. Funny you should say that. I was just looking at these, and wondering whether they would work with the Australian 380 codes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mitsubishi-Galant-FLIP-KEY-KEYLESS-ENTRY-SYSTEM-blank_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQ hashZitem5d2624946dQQitemZ400071890029QQptZMotorsQ 5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

If we're forced to pay $250 for a key from MMAL, and these are decent quality they would be a pretty cool and unique alternative.

So who has a lazy couple of hundred $$$ lying around and doesn't mind going guinea pig?

Edit: Also they are only 3 button, judging from the images. I'd be happy to do without a Panic button, as long as the other 3 buttons would map to Lock, unlock and trunk.

Apat I think that the blank on that one is different to ours!

I thought that myself, but he seems to use the same photo in all of his flip-key auctions.

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/autopartshaus/m.html?_nkw=flip-key&_sacat=&_trksid=p3911.m270.l1313

I might send the guy an email, linking to one of the online stores selling Galant key blanks, and get him to confirm that they key matches (or better yet, send a photo of the actual item for sale).

Edit: I've just noticed that he specifies that the remote is a "4 button remote" in the body of his auction, and unless he is counting the silver key-release as a "button" then that aint a photo of the actual item.

Send him a pic of your key and see what he says about the blank type. We would all be interested I think!!
