Greetings guys,
Been a while but I have been keeping a silent vigil on this forum (usually don't post unless I need to :D )
Anyway, it has come to pass that I can now look at upgrading my '96 TE Magna's performance. About the only mod done so far is the Berkley straight-through exhaust.
I intend to put extractors and a high-flow cat on it but that's about where my starting point knowledge comes to an end.
Any suggestions from the faithful out there on what some first-up, off-the-shelf mods might be.
And I'd like to thank the nasty insurance people who make it impossible to do anything to your car...hehe...time to get some quotes from Shannons and Just Car.

Have you changed the air filter? That'd be my first choice for off-the-shelf mods (In fact it was, lol). Put a K&N Panel or Pod filter on.

spend some penny on a FPR ( fuel pressure regulator ), it give some performance, on the other hand, it drains your petrol like water.

You can do a search or browse the tech torque threads and that'll give you a few ideas. A basic list of simple mods which will improve performance are:
1. Filter, KnN panel, or a KnN POD enclosed with a good cold air induction setup, no point in going pod unless you go some sort of cold air induction setup.
2. Extractors. Nothing less then either pacemakers or RPW extractors, your best bet is to spend a bit more and get a quality set, and what ever you do don't get wild cat extractors. Your looking at any where from $500 - $700 for a set of extractors depending on where you buy them and where you get them fitted.
3. As has been said, rising rate fuel pressure regulator. RPW sells them, you'd be looking at a few $100 bucks for a FPR though. Reasonable gains can be expected apparently.
4. I would say exhaust but you've got that already. And don't waste your money on a hi-flow cat, no matter what an exhaust place says its not needed, until your car is pumping out 200 kw+, theres no need as the stock cat flows well enough, they aren't that restrictive, nothing thats robbing you of a noticeable amount of power anyway.
5. Throttle body upgrade. As I've been told, a 5 mm larger diameter throttle body will give approx 5 kw gain at the wheels, as a general rule, at the same time helping improve torque figures through out the rev range. I know RPW does a high flowed throttle body for magnas which makes your engine alot more responsive and alows a bit more air through, no huge power gains though, other then that Im not sure about a single over size unit, or if you want to spend up a bit you could go with their twin throttle body setup, not sure if its 100% ready though.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I like trying to make myself sound smart and get all technical, most of the time it doesn't quite work though, hope this helps. Cheers.

Thanks for the info guys. I will for-go the high-flow cat for later and will definitely look at putting a KnN panel in. The guy who does my engine stuff is pretty good, sourcing the best gear for Magnas and then selling at near cost price (he makes his money on the labour).

IMHO you're better off decreasing the angle of sharp bends in the exhaust pipes and/or changing to mandrel bends which would yield greater throughput then a high-flow cat. In the case of your stock cat having molten internals... that's a different matter entirely :D

Yeah. Our 3rd gen piping is basically mandrel bent but it's a bit wonky going from front to back.

Well, I've just purchased a set of Pacemaker extractors for $385. Once they arrive, I'll get my local guy to install them.

Recently got PaceMaker extractors, Hi-Flow Cat, 2.5inch system with Lukey tuned Magna Race Muffler.
Sounds great except for the 250Flex double braid exhaust things off the extractors or around that area is makin a noise  when i give it some.. Gunna take it back tomorra to get it looked at.
Other than that, im happy with my purchase :)
hmm...ok, i'm probably gonna start a war by bringing this up, but Pod and panel? thought MAS had issues with pods, except the oval one that costs a fortune with the rpw cai

Oval Pods can be had for about $200 without the CAI kit

Greetings All.
Pods are only really effective with the whole cold air induction. Otherwise you lose power with an open pod without a propper CAI.
