Just a quick question. I went into my local friendly Mitsubishi dealership to see if I could buy a chrome version of the plastic thing (pictured above...what is it called anyway?) and they said unless I wanted 'Verada' imprinted on it I could not get a replacement one for my Magna instead of the grey one! I swear I have seen chromed ones... (unless they don't supply them now) I know I have definately seen photos on this and other sites (i.e. SETME3). I have been keeping my eyes open but haven't seen any of late. Can you buy them? if so, does anyone know where in Eastern suburbs of Victoria? or maybe I can have it delivered...whatever. Any info/suggestions appreciated. Cheers in advance.

You are better off going to a wrecker and getting it off a TE/TF Magna Altera. Its called a
boot garnish.

yellow pages..... imlachs
lol Now your post makes sense to me. I thought it was some abbreviated term like imho or rofl but didn't want to ask! I didn't think it was a name!! lol
Why do I know, because I went to Mitsu again and said to the same parts guy that I have seen these out on the road and that they are off a TE Altera. He went and played Minesweeper some more and returned saying that they just don't exist... but if I happen to know someone with one could they get the part number from the inside of the moulding. :doubt:
So I sent a PM to Mr Altera who kindly took it off to have a look but there was no part no. on it.
Yesterday I was driving home from work and I saw another one and I thought, bugger this, so I went to a different Mitsu dealer. Ok, I didn't know what it was called to start with but when I asked him for a chromed 'Magna' boot garnish off a TE Altera, he said "a what?" not knowing what a boot garnish was. He went and played minesweeper for nearly ten minutes before coming back saying yeah, I think it is only Verada you will find them on. Then some other guy walks in and I could hear him ask this guy what the part was called, doubting what I said. then they both played minesweeper together for a few more minutes before he came out saying that there is a part on the computer but they cannot tell if it is chromed or not...
He ended up giving me a business card for a Mitsubishi dismantler place.
Went there, the guy new exactly what I was talking about immediately and said "don't bother with MMAL, try your luck at the wreckers, including imlachs! he he
I will have a look but I have given up on the idea for now.

Hey I got one about two months ago. From Mitsubishis' with no trouble. Tell 'em to get off their butt and look for one. The Altera LS models have them. Two styles. Chrome garnish with chrome writing or chrome garnish with black writing. I paid about $50.

Thanks, you don't happen to have the part number on the receipt by any chance? so I know which is which (given you also tell me which type you got! lol )
I am going to try Heidelberg Mitsubishi next, apparently I might have better luck there.
Pick up your game Mitsubishi!

If your real keen, try Dandenong Mitsi. I've gotten a few items from there, no worries with no hassle whatsoever, and I dont think they have Minesweeper!

If it is ABS plastic (it should say it somewhere on the back) you can. Maybe not dipped but definately sprayed chrome.

I went back to Mitsubishi again. (My new AMC sticker seemed to draw attention!!) anyway I insisted that there is in fact a chromed Magna boot garnish, and was faced with the same doubtful response, insisting that it was only for Verada! I insisted that I want to persevere and order one cos I know they exist.
The guy took down the details and right at the end noticed that the part number for the Altera/LS boot garnish was in fact different from the others! so he is now interested and said he will be eager to open the box when it comes in. So yeah, hopefully I will have some good news in a few days!!! it is like pulling teeth!
Oh yeah, one other interesting thing... I happened to ask, "I know there is a chromed one and I am asking for it... but what if it arrives and it is not chromed?" He replied "Well I guess you wont be buying it then!" but then he followed by saying that anything they order in cannot be returned to their supplier, so they hold onto it for a while, then the supplier have a small window of return but they are selective about what they take back again. He said if they wont take it much of the rest is written off!!!
Can anyone verify this from here? seems like an awful waste to me. It would be good if the AMC could have a parts listing of stock which is to be 'written off' by individual Mitsu dealerships, and get an opportunity to have a discounted rate? better something in their pockets than nothing right?!

Oh the thing the guy was saying about sending parts back is sort of right but you don't rite off stock if Preston Motors won't take it back, well we don't anyway.
Drop in, I 'll look and see if we have one in stock
