Hey Guys. As the title suggests is it possible??

I want to upgrade the exhaust on the TS V6 but dont want to go aftermarket. I do not believe that Mitsu Had a free flowing sports exhaust for the TR/TS so I have been looking in the direction of a 3rd gen retrofit.

I know that this particular exhaust is more free flowing without the noise of an aftermarket setup. I had a 2.5" aftermarket straight through exhaust installed in my old TR and couldnt remove it before It was scrapped as it was welded @ the axel instead of flanged. It was also a bit too loud.
What I am looking for these days is a quieter exhaust that is 2.5" so it has a more of a free flow.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Probably just go a semi-straight through Lukey or redback mate.....Wouldnt set you back any more then $100 for the muffler itself

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the sports exhaust on the sports/vr and vrx are 2.25inch no? As tuffy said ur best bet would be to try an aftermarket, cos the underbody mold on the 2nd and 3rd gen are pretty diff, ntm, where the extractors meet and how far under they meet (again correct me if im wrong, also maybe explain it better cos i sucked)

Do a search. I've fitted the LR2779? muffler and the front secondaries off a 3rd gen sports to my KS. The muffler was swapped from a Genie straight through which was loud and droned.

just wanna know, was that cut and welded or was it a bolt-up? what modification needed to fit a 3rd gen muffler to a 2nd gen pipe?

To be honest, I can't remember. I got an exhaust fitter to do it. The muffler was fitted by Exhaust plus and the secondaries were fitted by D&T. Come to think of it, the whole pipe was changed to 2.5" prior to that together with a high-flow cat, res and genie (this was done in Perth by RPW when I was over there).

At the inlet it is basically 2.5 (a couple mm off), but thats not important, because whatever exhaust you fit will have to be welded on regardless so I guess its a case of which one sounds nicest to you. I had a 2.5 inch system on my TR and it had a round muffler (not a cannon, looked like those on a VR or VN commodore) and it sounded tough on WOT with no drone at all, it kinda growled nicely.

I can tell you for sure, cos I've been through the entire process myself.

Basically found a Sports/VR factory muffler off a wrecked vehicle (was hit in the front) which was written off.

Drove 2 hours to collect the muffler, and 2 hours back.

Only to find out that my old TS Sedan bodywork could not accommodate the Sports/VR muffler, because there wasn't enough space.

Apparently the 3rd gen mufflers are slightly larger than 2nd gen ones.

If I didn't have a towbar, there may have been half a chance (I still doubt it though)......reason being because the metal bars that hold the towbar to the body will get in the way of the muffler.

Tried a variety of muffler shops, all to no avail.

Interesting. From memory, the KS stock muffler was bigger than the lukey LR2779, especially as it has the extra stainless steel heat shielding. Mind you the KS has bigger rear bumper.

well im thinking maybe swapping my crappy no brand muffler for a 3rd gen sports one. how is it bigger? length/width/height?

i've the KR rear bumper if that mates a difference.

I did put a Lukey 3rd gen muffler next to mine on the floor once and noticed a small difference in size. I think it may be a case of trial and error...

I was referring to jzt's TS Magna sedan having a shorter rear bumper than a KR/KS Verada so a Verada will have more room length wise.
