Long time lurker, first time posting.

Tonight I pulled up into the drive and noticed some damp spots under the car.
After some investigation I had noticed it was a fairly nice leak from the rubber boot around some of the steering assembly.

I have pictures!

Any ideas? We think it may just be a seal. But that power steering fluid looks really dirty.

I think you will find the oil/grease is coming from the drive shaft rubber boot. The rubber boot splits and as the contents is sprayed out around the area as you drive.

Its not too bad to replace yourself mate.
Wheel off, then is it the steering knuckle? has to be disconnected from the hub, tie rod unscrews, old boot off, new boot on, reverse of disassembly. And Took me 40 mins one side hour a half the other side as the damn subframe had to come off

would it be easier to replace the assembly rather than repairing it, just like CV joints when their boots perish?
ive had mine do it, and found it easier to replace the drive shafts for some recod ones.
hmmmm excuse for a TW upgrade?

Thanks for the replies.

Will probably just take it to my mechanic if it is an easy job.
Not really in for dicking around a lot while I'm so busy heh.

Do you think it is okay to drive for a week or two?
If it bleeds out completely some mates said I'll just not have power steering but it will not damage it.
Worth trying stop-leak you think?

What good will an upgrade to the TW bits do?

Stop leak wont fix it unfortunately, and as for driving it for a few weeks, depends on how badly it is leaking, going by the pic, id be trying to fix it as soon as you can, as if it runs dry, you will be up for a whole rack not just boots and a seal.

Oh and TW's have a slightly different setup, and is slightly heavier steering giving better on road response. Some people have upgraded, but unless you have to replace the rack its more of a personal preference.

Heh okay, I guess I will replace it then.

Anyone done this before? Idea of what parts will be needed?

Uuuh, I mean the seal and boot and not the rack.

It is just dripping as in.. Drip, drip, drip, drip. So fairly serious heh. Any advice for driving in the meanwhile? Just keep it topped up?
