View Full Version : Which Shock?

I have lowered the Wagon with king springs and had Monroe GT Gas put in at the time.
The car rides and handels well but is way to firm. I was never told at the time that the GT was a firm ride shock.
I understand that when you lower the car you loose comfort becasue of the less travel etc..
I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations of other shockers that may give me more comfort but still responsive enough to cope with the lowering.
The wagons have much shorter springs in the rear than the sedans and dont have IRS which makes it a firm ride in the rear.
I was told about monroe comfort gas but i dont think they make them anymore. I think they scraped them when they bought in the new GT gas which is not what i have.

I've got KYB's. I'm happy with them but I can't compare them to anything else other than stock. It's firmer and on occasion it's crashed through bumps but it's still a complient ride.

Mmmh - Monroes are good stuff. I think they still do Sensatronic or something. It's more for cruising than hooning like GT Gas or Pedders Sports Ryder. Kyb is also quite good, but not much known in Ozland, more in Europe. I had them too some 20 yrs ago in an Escort, very nice and firm shocks. U ger used to the firm ride - after all it's safer. Shocks only dampen the dive-ins and such stuff.
I think it's time for a nip (brandy) and and tuck. G-nite.

dont put sensatrac, they are not meant for lowered springs!
and for the comfort, there are very few shockers out there that will provide comfort plus lowered travel, some are eibach, konis!
but for gt gas i think they are not hard enough. a bit of a **** shocker really, however the sensatrac are even worse!

Sensatrac come in shortened lengths for lowered springs (but not for all models); but agreed they are a damper that attempts to be variable rate but is not very successful at it. I actually don't feel that the GT Gas are very firm at all; The hardest dampers I have probably felt are probably the TEIN green colored Coilovers (not sure what model). Don't forget though that springs are what mainly contribute to firmness.

Coilovers are not necessarily hard; they can be set up to be as hard or compliant as you want. Look at Rally cars for example; their coilovers are set up very soft. Generally though most people who use TEINs are on the road or track and do set them up VERY hard :D
