Hi all,
Have acquired myself a nice little example of a SE Wagon. I came across this great forum while trying to figure out exactly how original the car is...and after reading many of the threads I think I may have caught the bug and treat this car more than just as the work commute horse I intended it to be.
There is one thing I am a little confused about. The badging on the car indicates it is an SE...but has P/W, C/C, A/C & C/L, which from what I can figure is not a standard list of features in this vechicle and from what I read are features that are found on the Elante...
What makes me suspicious is that as this is a wagon and I cannot find the rear window washer/wiper button or stalk any where...this makes me think that maybe the casing that houses the C/C, A/C and indicator stalk is not original and has been sourced from a Elante/Elite.
Only picked this car up Monday so have not even had a chance to wash clean the poor thing...vehicle is in reasonable condition considering it has 321,000klm on the clock, funnily enough is one of the most enjoyable and comfortable cars I have driven...have had everything from old school Holden Statesman's through to new corolla's.
Can't wait to give it a good wash and vacuum and shampoo the carpets this weekend...will post some pics if people are interested.
As a bit of a side question is it relatively easy to remove the seats completely so I can clean under them?
Again thanks for any help...

That sounds like a normal SE to me, although some of the features may have been extra cost options when new. e.g. I don't think cruise control was standard on the SE but it could have been optional. I'm not sure about central locking.
I don't have one but I do have an Executive wagon. The rear wiper and washer on mine is controlled by a rocker switch on the steering console. It is the first button to the right of the steering column and is obvious from the icon on it. (Well, it is obvious when you know what it does!) The rocker switch is spring loaded. You click it one way for the wiper and press further for the washer or press the opposite way for washer only.
If the SE has the steering console with big round knobs on each end (which I think it does), then the rear wiper/washer is controlled by the inner section of the large knob on the left hand side of the steering console. Turn the inner section anti-clockwise for wiper and further again for washer too or turn it clockwise for washer only.
The seats are easy enough to get out (with rails attached). Just 4 bolts on the rails (set screws actually). Slide the seat back to get to the front 2 and forward to get to the back 2.
regards

picture of the wing controller layout
high beam switch is the indicator flicked towards you
dash dimmer switch is the slide control near the ign key

Thanks guys for replying so quickly!!! My SE seems to be like yours magna buff, the dash layout is the same as the picture...less the rear wiper toggle near the main window washer/wiper...possbile broken off? if you could show me an actual photo of yours that would be appreciated. The dash has analog dials.
I wrote down the codes from the plate in the engine bay this might help clear a couple things up...I can find the paint code on the internet but not the option codes.
PAINT - AN - Vulcan Grey?
TRIM - A3
OPTIONS - E44, D45, H50, A13

thanks for that floater...am going to have trawl the internet a bit more for these codes...out of interest what sort of mileage to you all get out of a tank of fuel...i know the wagons are prob gonna get more with a bigger tank but L/100klm should be the same?

12.9l/100k if i drive like a grandma its better than that. if i drive like hoon i can probably go through quarter of a tank in 40 or 50ks

WOW...12.9L/100k...was kinda estimating conservitivley 10L/100k...my fuel gauge does seem to be reading correct when full it only shows 3/4 full...hmmm may need to fill up this morning if I wanna get to work :)
Is the power package the same as this Luxury package I keep seeing in the user manuals and the net?

im guesing the luxury pack would include the valuer interior.
i havnt done an average for highway driving yet with the fuel injection. but when i had a carby in it i could get 8l/100k on the highway
the carby had a higher average around town than the efi but didnt use as much when you wanted to be a lead foot.
fuel consumption will vary from car to car. but if you can get 10l/100k you would have to have the most fuel efficient first gen lol

Filled up today on the way home...took 40.85 litres to the secondish click...got 421.8klm from last fill so my calculations are....10.32L/100klm...am going to keep a record and get a monthly average.
Hopefully things should improve once I get it serviced and a couple of things fixed.

Would interesting to know if you have any change...I have been using BP Ultimate at the moment but will be going back to normal...I assume this model magna wouldn't be compatible with the E10 versions of ULP being sold now?
