OK i thought i'd put it in this section first as it's probably the same for the different models.

Story short, my bro in law was installing a new interior bulb but the positive pin shorted on the chassis (directly above where the globe sits is either a metal bracket or the actual roof) as it was in the on position.

Anyways he blew a few fuse which is now replaced... all fuses in the engine bay and kickpanel now checkout okay and the engine starts, idles and runs fine so i think it's safe to say the ecu is fine or mostly fine?

However the below items still do not work:
- central locking, regardless of remote, manually flicking the door switch doesn't activate the others
- interior lights still not working
- trip computer won't turn on, just blank
- deck won't turn on
- fuel gauge doesn't budge

Any ideas guys? much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

***NOTE***
- The car is a Series 1 TJ Solara.
- Thats all the information I have so far as it was over the phone and he's 60Km's away.

***EDIT***
- Does the magna have relay's?
- Are there fuses or relay's behind the dash?
- Is there a fork in the wiring that splits power specifically to the above items not working?

Someone a lot smarter than me with this kind of stuff will probably answer for you, but I just thought I'd mention I had a monkey at JB Hifi install an alarm system for my in my Evo and he blew some module in behind the dash that controlled the central locking. I know that doesn't sound like much help, but maybe something to look into.

The other thing was just to go over the fuses again - sometimes they can look ok on first inspection, but with a closer look, taking them right out they are actually shagged.

^^^Thanks mate. I know what you mean though, i'll either do it myself now or goto an audio specialist after Strathfield stuffed mine.

Having a gander now of the service manual posted here a while ago... do you know if the module controls anything else?

I don't know mate, sorry. I'm not terribly electrically savvy. Mechanically yes, electrically no. lol

Thanks Gents he's going to check now.

He said the blown fuse he changed was one of the 2 in the yellow box.. he's goin to change the other one just in case.

OK all fixed now thanks guys. It was that blown fuse but what we didn't realise was that the yellow box is a switch/relay and it had to be closed to complete the circuit... he didn't shut it because he was testing.

I'll remember this one. Thanks again fellas.

Close thread please :D

Okay not sure how he tested it but usually you have the key set to IGN and then check all fuses as they should ALL be getting power

yeah i hate it when it's something stupidly small that's overlooked.

wasn't testing per say.. you know when your trying to troubleshoot stuff and your changing around components, etc.. tend to leave stuff open in case you need to change it again like a pc tower lol

This is what Test Lights are for, very cheap $10 investment:P
