Hehe. I just did the dumbest thing imaginable.

I knew I was going to have to upgrade the factory cd player in my magna - but it wasn't s'posed to be like this.

Incase y'all haven't figured it out already, I disconnected my battery before checking to see if my security coded radio code was writen down anywhere. Now I've checked in the Operators Manual and the Service & Warranty book and it's not writen anywhere.

What's the deal - surely the previous owner disconnected the battery at some point and had to put the code into his/her stereo - did they commit it to memory??? is there a basic formula for finding it out (first 2 and last 2 number of the VIN or something??)

Do I have to take it to Mitsubishi to find out?? or am I just going to cut my loses and head down to my local JB hi-fi tommorrow morning?? Guess it all depends on what's involved in finding out the number for my car..... and how long I can stand driving in silence.

this happends 2 me a while back wif my tape deck in my tp but luckly my dad works at mitsubishi and he was able to get a mate to look up my car and find out the pin code. so i would say that you should be able to get mitsubishi 2 get the code 4 u.

Just punch in 1111 every 2 minutes.. lol.. Your radio will come on for 2 minutes.. then you'll have to re-enter the code!

Having worked in the car rental business, this thing happened all the bloody time...damn annoying. This is what you need to be able to do...

Some dealerships are nice in that if you call them and give them the Rego number they will give you the code no probs. Probably a bit slack as far as security is concerned, but anyway thats their problem...

I have found if you can supply proof of ownership and usually a Vin number they will give you a code no worries...

IF you get pricks like my local mitsubishi, I have to take the car in, the radio in, supply proof of ownership and proof of identity before they give me a code. They also want a Vin but thats on my rego sticker.

But anyway, its possible to get your code back, no need to buy a new head unit. Just depending on your dealer, a degree of mucking about..

Mark.

P.S. Done the 1111 trick....LOL....how annoying is that lol

yeah, just quote your VIN to the dealer and they should be able to get it off their network for free... i've done it a couple of times

Thanks for all the replies doods. Just to recap - the 1111 trick didn't work with my factory CD player, infact if you enter the wrong code 3 times, it starts making you wait a maximum of 16 minutes before you can input the next code - all the while no music.

Anyho, I'm now the proud owner of a new JVC CD/MP3/WMA HUnit with a fancy screen and blah blah blah. And just when you thought I'd done the stupidest thing imaginable. I've got another stoopid question (probably belongs in the audio section).

Any one know how to get a cd out of a head unit which has been removed from the car???

You'll need to get it onto a power supply of some sort.. Maybe a in desk power supply like they used to have in the Labs at High School..

Try your friendly audio shop and if they are in a good mood they may be able to power it up for you....

Either that or pull it apart... I guess it all depends if you want the CD player to ever work again...

Just hook up the 12V and ACC wires onto the positive terminal of your car battery, then the ground wire onto the negative terminal. Press eject.

Thanks guys. I might enlist my old mans help with that one. He's an instrument technician by trade - it's probably take him all of 30 seconds.

I must admit - I'm a dunce when it comes to wires and stuff (unless they're inside a computer) but give me a socket set and an engine lifter and you wont see me all weekend.

thanks again.

There are no standard codes as such, if the radio was replaced under warranty then your mate needs to get himself a new radio. Usually Mits Service will record the change in the code however now and again the dealer will not update and then once that radio has been disconnected you are stuffed
