AWD power steering rack and pump same as the FWD ones [Archive]

Anyone can help me on this one? Are the power steering rack and pump the same for both AWD and FWD? Or are they different? :ninja:

I think so too. Given Mitsubishi's budget to get the AWD I don't see them developing a new steering rack. The TL/TW AWD's got the Ralliart pump (just like all the other TL TW's), that is the only difference i believe.

Thanks guys! I wanted to change my power steering rack to the TL/TW one, as it is better. So I reckon i better ask first.

The rack number might be different but the changes made in the TL/TW model is minute and the rack bolts on directly to the TJ.

I will find out very soon... :( Fingers crossed! Just got myself a TL power steering rack. Part number sure looks a tad different to the TL AWD one in alscall's thread. It has a higher number... Will drop by the mechanic to suss it out. If it fits, I'll have a spare KJ2 AWD steering rack for sale... if not I'll have a spare TL FWD steering rack for sale! Win-win situation......... NOT! Muahaha....

Good news (for now)! My mechanic had a look whilst getting my oil changed. He said it can fit and I'll be getting him to fit it next Wed. Fingers crossed.

Alas... it didn't work. AWD power steering rack and FWD power steering rack are indeed different by just a small bit. The mounting holes for a FWD power steering rack are at 90degrees to each other but for AWD ones they are at a slight angle to each other.

Damn! Need to get an TL/TW or KL/KW AWD one!
