Hi all new to this so im not sure if someone has had a similar problem. Basicly i recently brought a 1996 TE magna and at the moment its doing strange things. Whilst driving it feels as though the whole car is shaking/vibrating and starts to make what i can only describe as deep whirring niose and then when i apply the brakes the steering wheel shudders violently. This doesnt happen all the time though and i find that after pulling up at a set of lights etc the issue goes away for a little while. I recently had the front rotors machined rear rotors replaced a full brake flush and a new set of brake pads put in the car hoping it would go away. it seemed ok for a few days then same old story. im guessing its not balances due to the fact this issue occurs at any speed range. so im just not sure where abouts i should look from there. Any help would be appreciated. thanks heaps. Nath.

take it to a wheel shop and get a wheel alignment/balance done.

Could be a few things-
Check all four engine mounts.
Wheel alignment
Check CV's

No worries thanks for all of that will book into the shop and get them to go over all of the above mentioned. Ive noticed it has had a fair few nolathane bushes put into it after market cv,s (stickers still on them) and by the looks the bolts on all four engine mounts are marked red making me think they have been replaced but who knows how long theyve been in there! . was owned by the blind association before i bought it and i think there is only one service slip that hasnt been filled out so overall im more than happy to spend a bit of cash to get it running right. anyway thanks heaps again for all the advice i'll try and get back to you all and let you know what it was. cheers. nath

When the tyres were replaced they would've balanced the wheels for you, which may have solved the problem.

Congrats on getting it fixed.

Congrats on getting it fixed.

Rather than imbalance it may have been the previous tyres weren't round, or did not wear round. All tyres are slightly out of round or have a dynamic problem, thats what the paint spots are there for on the walls of new tyres. The tyre paint mark should be lined up with out-of-round mark on the wheel.

But some tyres are poorly made and are more out of round when new, or the carcass weakens with use and they go more out of round and begin vibrating. A wheel balance job won't fix this vibration. Sometimes you will see that the tyres are wearing with strange changes in tread depth and waves and dips throught the tread. If its just one tyre thats bad often you can pick it after a 20-30km drive. Just feel the tyre temperature. If the tyres all have the correct pressures then the hottest tyre will most likely be the one thats badly out of round or has tread or carcass separation issues. Tyres like this will blow out at high speed or on very hot days.

Cheers,
Alan
