I would first, disconnect the battery for a few minutes.. Disables the SRS..

Then, if you don't know already.. The back panel on the TL (and I assume others) seats comes off by lifting it up and pulling.. This is the flat part where the map pocket is on the back of the driver and passenger seats.. This should give you access to the back of the airbag modules, and I assume the mounting clips/nuts or whatever holds in the modules is in there.

Yep.. Just checked the workshop manual.. Remove seat back panel, then you should be able to remove the nut which holds the module in.. You will need to disconnect the battery and remove the seats and wiring harness though..

I know what you mean about the $$$. but dont like the idea of playing with a safety. Please i'm not have a go at you, far from it.
On the back of the passager and driverside seat their is a back panel that comes off from the bottom.
From they you would be able to see the air bag setup. should be just bolted in.

BIG NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before disconnecting or remove any airbag. disconnect + an - from the battery, then turn the car on to start. Sounds silly to start the car from no battery attached, but will remove any power in the lines.

you dont need to remove the airbag to put the covers on
you'll see a retangle marked on the covers where the airbag goes, cut this rectangle out with a stanly knife and also the angled bits on each corner
its abit fiddly but its doable ;)
