Just in case any of you havent pulled apart your keys, here is what they look like. This is the one I got from the states for $27. They said it was brand new, yeah right! Brand new and cut and bent lol anyway just be careful when you pull it apart as the buttons fall out, especially the panic one, which makes you panic if you can't find it!! To open the key you will need a flat bladed screwdriver to lever open the case. There is a small recess on the LHS of the key to place it into. There is also a recess in the remote module to lever open to gain access. Unfortunately you cant just change the blank over if you stuff the key as it is integrated into the remote body. I will post pics below.

Many thanks to McHenry for posting the pics for me.
Has anyone confirmed whether these (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1114760&postcount=19) keyfob programming instructions work?

No but am willing to give it a go I guess. The only problem is the key wont work. and yes you were right it wasnt brand new and the blank was cut.

What battery is that? Is it a CR2032 (computer cmos battery)? I'd be stoked if it is.

I have put it above but my apologies if it isn't clear enough. You need to insert the flat bladed screwdriver into the recess and whilst holding firmly in place, twist it. The covers should then separate. You may need some force to do this. Be careful to do it in an area where you can see the little buttons that fall out (like on a table or similar). I dont seem to be able to upload photos otherwise I would show you more. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more.
Cheers

I have just had a look under the dash and cant seem to locate the mentioned port!! Is it a straight port or has it a lead connected to it. I will have to go and have another look, but if someone, anyone else can have a look too that would be good.

Guinea Pig reporting back.
Have now found the port. It is Black and is on the drivers side mounted on the centre console side. Have managed to reprogram both my remotes again so that they are the same. IT WORKS!! Just one note when doing multiple keys in relation to step 5. You dont have to have the other remotes or keys in the ignition, you just need to press the lock button 3 x. Am pretty chuffed too lol

It's the OBDII port isn't it?

I programmed a spare key last night. Took all of 30 seconds, easy as pie. I just used a piece of thin wire as a jumper. The port is quite easy to get to, in the same spot as the Galant (but the mirror image being the left hand drive version). I heard the dealerships charge $50 to do it. Given that 1 minute would not be an unreasonable allowance to do this job, that works out at $3000 an hour. Not bad................

Bearing in mind that they can just plug into the port too with the OBD equipment it would make it easier!

Yes Terry
I have bought a key online too and about to do the same. What you need to do is take it to a Mitsi dealer and get it encoded. Otherwise it will never start on that key. You can only do that part one time for each key too.

I bought one from US for $60 or thereabouts. Just got it today and all appears good. Will have to see if encodes

PS It appears you can expect to pay around $55-65 for transponder encoding from Mitsi. Funnily enough it was heaps more through a locksmith.

BAD NEWS guys im afraid. Went to a mitsi dealer today where a good freind of my is a service adviser and they couldnt program the key as their programmer would not accept the key. They reckon they are cheap clones
Upon further investigation the 2000-2004 US galant uses the same key but without transponder chip. So iam guessing the seller of these is falsely advertising them for use in 2005-2009 galants but they will not work as they dont have a transponder chip in them to deactivate the immobiliser
Now hes in for a flood of Paypal claims, i just did my claim now

That is terrible news. This is the one I bought. Is this the same key/seller?

yes it is the same seller in US. To start off with i bought one from a USA mitsi dealer and that didnt work at all so i ordered these ones off ebay USA which were half the price and i thought i was getting a bargain. That same US ebay seller insists that it works 100% with the US galant right up to current model and that he has sold hundreds to people in the USA without a problem. I have done a bit of research and it appears ALL the US galants from around 2000 to current do not have a transponder in the key so CANNOT be used on 380s which would make sense why the US ebay seller isnt having any issues with US buyers. The only thing that we can use from this key is the central locking component which works fine in my 380.
Obviously MMAL wanted to build in more security to their cars so added a transponder to the exact same key.

I guess that you cant really blame him for that even though we have both been stung. Still it is a bit frustrating. Thanks to Terry for all that great albeit not good info!

Just heard back from the seller who stated to me "To my knowledge it DOES have the chip. I don?t know why you could not get it coded.
Once the return is received I will process the refund. Please do not forget to include this note with the return so we can process it without delay"
I may just try it with my mitsi dealer first. Stay tuned.....

Well I pulled apart the import key and put it beside my one. There is definitely NO transponder chip in the new one. BUGGER!

The US galant's use a vastly different ECU...
Tell the Ebay seller to send you the three ECu's, ignition barrel, airbags and complete wiring loom...then it will accept the key...lol
