Hey guys, was just playing with my sub and saw that it was 'sucking' not 'punching'. in that, teh first movement is inwards then outwards. i check to make sure the wires weren't crossed and that negative was connected to negative and vis versa.

Is my sub dying or broken or am i broken? i always thought they punched before they sucked back in.

any help would be great,

Cheers,
Presti

Did you check those wires at both the sub's voice coil and the amp?

Maybe it's just how it works in that type of box?

As long as it sounds OK, I wouldn't be worried at all.

yeahh i checked the connections from the amp. to the connection in the box i made, then to the sub. tho i did swap it from the connection to the box to the sub because it sounded like it was really weak and off, now it hits way harder and sounds healthy :-S its weird.

thats because the sub was doing the opposite to what its ment to be doing ;)

what before or after?
before i swapped the wires over it was terrible, when you opened the boot it sounded like it was about to tear, now it sounds kinda what i remember subs sound like..if that makes any sense..

If you can get your hands on another sub and compaire them with the same connections (plus-plus, minus-minus on the subs), then it woulds show up as either a sub or amp problem.
Oh, make your phases are correct (0 or 180)

Definitely sounds like the positive and negative is switched around. It should still sound OK but is designed to work as it is marked so I would switch it back. If it wasnt sounding good before there was another problem....

So the driver travels inwards then outwards on bass hits? That's ummm...kinda what they do lol

A sub can work being wired up either way. Just because it has +ive and -ive on the coils, doesn't mean you have to wire them that way.

Any decent manufacture actually has in the manual to reverse the phase ( swapping the wires ) to see if that is more in phase with your mids. Subs can move either way, they are still moving air. :D
