Gday,

Just wondering if anyone new of a good tyre to fit 17in x 7in wheels to go on my TF. I know they need a load rating of 95 or higher, especially for insurance reasons, basically Im after something that isn't too pricey but still provides reasonable grip and tyre life. Any suggestions any one? Thanks.

235/45R17 should have a load rating of 97. Problem is they're typical recommended for at least a 7.5 inch rim.

Get a new tyre placard.. you will have a very hard time finding (good) tyres in that size and with a load rating of 95.

I run the Falken Azenis ST115 in that size and they are load rating 97. They give unbelievable grip when pushing to the limits but are about $280 each. Only expect to get about 25,000Kms out of a set of these.

If you fix your tyre load dilemma, also look at the Eagle F1 GS-D2s which are cheaper; F1 GS-D3s if you can afford about $320 each. Don't buy Sava tyres... more grip if you ran no tyres at all ;).

Only other tyres I looked at are the Michelin Pilot Preceda $280, and also Bridgestone Potenta S-03s at $320.

That will make you feel warm and fuzzy, until your insurer decides to not cover you in the event of a claim where the tyres are a contributing factor to the accident.

I've got 512's and I'm impressed. A bit louder than the RE-92's I had previously but they get noisier under moderate cornering and braking.

Is the $180 the RRP or is it at mates rates? As far as tyre life goes how long do they tend to last? And how's their grip? Im guessing they're the tyres you have on your car?

Toyo Trampio TPG 235/45/17 97 210 bux ea from Narellan (Sydney) Blairs Tyres. Unlike Tranpath, these are uni-directional. Very quiet, only slightly noisier than the Best Tyre in the World , RE 92. (Racing Excellence, 92 LeMans victories). Grip is very good, but only had them for a week now, so cannot say much.
Less noisy than Falken 326, my previous tyres (which were of illegal load rating), but similar if not better grip on dry.
When it comes to fitting 235s on 7" rims, it appears to be very unlikely for insurance company to dig in to it. Not properly legistlated matter. Besides, different tyre manufacturers recommend different rim widths for the very same 235 and it would not surprise me if they also change per year/model. Sooo, imagine ins comp investigating that kind of matter. Mayhem.
We hope.

235 is bit expensive size, so anything below 200 is "cheap" - but might also be "cheap" in quality wise too. Listen to your wallet.....

Manager at Tyrepower is lady at work's son, so he looked after me. :)

As Killer said, they are unidirectional so rotating can be tricky.

Only had them 2 mths., so dunno about durability.

Grip seems just fine, haven't really tested it to the limit.

i heard all this crap about load ratings so when i went to get my new tyres i asked the guy who had been in the tyre buisness 20 odd years about it and he had no idea what i was talking about (having to have a certain rating). i was still abit worried so i rang my insurance company. the girl on the phone said she knew nothing of it so she put me through to their underwriters who cover moddifications and he told me no such thing exists in their policies. as long as the tyre is correct size and has legal tread thats all they would check. i got 17x7 with 215/35w 87z wich is the highest possible weight (w) and speed (z) rating for 190 a corner. unidirectional, handle amazing. and i think you need to remember any and i mean any upgrade to these sort of size performance tyres are gonna give very big improvements across the board from your standard 205/65 factory fitted tyre. and also someone said 235's are expensive. thats wrong they actually work out to be the cheapest because they are the most popular size so they are manufactured in higher numbers thus lowering the price. it may seem they are more expensive because you will probably find they are made at higher quality levels compared to other sizes avaliable.

He's wrong. Traffic authorities specify that you can only fit tyres of equal or higher load rating. Who are you insured with? I know for a fact that NRMA would never give this responce.

Check this link for an example. This is from Queensland Transport.

They are expensive when compared to the factory choices of tyres however they are cheaper than the 225/50R17's that the VR-X's use. The price difference between the 225 and 235's I was thinking of getting was $30 per tyre. Sidewall construction is the key to low profile tyres. In this regard, you get what you pay for.

235's cheap????
Oh well - 205/65/15 RE 92 (the std tyre on Magna) costs some 90 bux ea.
235/45/17 Toyo TPG cost me 210 bux.
Have I been seriously ripped off here.....
And, the load rate is one of the first things Radar Operators and insurance companies check on a modded car.....

I think what he meant was that 235s are generally cheaper than 225s or 245s. If you think $210 is expensive you should ask how much Booya pays for his tyres lol .

Well, it's 235/45 that's cheaper than an obscure combination of 225/50.
