Alrighty guys,

Just had my timing belt kit and whatnot replaced on there car, It now has been back three times to try and fix a certain problem,

On Idle it makes a shocking deep Gurgle/Grumble sound, and as you accelerate for about a second it will keep doing this, it also does it in reverse. It's a major pain in the ass as the sound is really annoying and it definatly doesn't sound right.

This problem only happened once in the past, Being a belt that wasn't tensioned properly that i took back to mitsubishi and they fixed it no dramas. The problem has only come back after this new major service.
It has been back to the mechanic three times already with no improvement. Any ideas guys?

You might need to post up a vid, a gurgle isn't a very good description,
however it may be the pully on the acc belt, that makes a gurge sound. Or i've had a poor seal on my extractors that also make a gurge sound,

Yeah i was thinking about taking it back to Mitsi, But my mechanic is charging me for his ****up, Im just sick of driving it to him everyday i have off :(

to try and describe it better, It sounds like a belt chewing or rubbing on the side of a pulley etc, Low deep scraping sound.

Edit: the gurgle comes from where the timing belt is, Nothing is wrong with the exhaust or antyhing like that, All coming from under the bonnett

Well best to post up a vid, um your extractors are under the bonnet too, but I have a hunch on the pully still

mate, do not pay him for his mistake, he caused this problem. take it to the mitsi place that tensioned your belt properly and get them to check it and if it is out, fix it get a written report and take it to the mechanic, get a refund on all the time he charged you to recheck his work. man, this is why i do all my own repairs, you cant trust anyone!!

oh and it wont be your extractors if the problem happened when the belt was done, and the same problem happened last time the belt was incorrectly tensioned. check the most likely cause first.

Where abouts in vic are you?

You could always try Madmagna. He is guaranteed to fix it for a very rreasonable/cheap price.

Did they take of the power steer/ac belts? If so, maybe they didn't tension them properly.

A slightly loose a/c/streer belt(s) (they like to be very tight) cause a grumble sound just off idle to about 1200 rpm then dissapear.

Alternator/aircon belt deflection= 6.0-7.2 mm for a new belt, 8.2-9.3 mm for a used belt.
Power steering belt deflection= 8.4-9.3 mm for a new belt, 11.0-14.2 mm for used.
measure at the mid point between pulleys using a strait edge and a ruler, press with about 44 newtons of force. i know its hard to get the pressure right, i just push up fairly hard with my thumb, and never had probs. too tight and you can cause wear on the bearings in the power steering/aircon/alternator and pulleys, plus stress the belt and shorten its life and increase the chance of snapping one when you are miles from home!! ( it is guaranteed to snap at the worst time)
