Hey guys, i have a ticking-tapping noise coming from the engine, i used a stethyscope and checked powersteering, alternater, aircon pump, block etc and its coming from the area where the trans inspection plate, starter motor is. only get it once engine up to temp and it can only be heard with bonnet open. its a tick,tick-tick about once every second at idle and seems to disappear above 1500rpm. i checked sump and on side of block and its not coming from bottom end or pulleys, oil pump etc. definitely in the torque converter area. Now only thing ive done is about 6 months ago the starter died and i replaced bushes and refit. for a couple of weeks after it made a zzzzzz noise when i let the key of after it started, but this went away and i checked fitment and all was good. My only theory is that the starter shaft is not retracting fully after disengaging, and the drive plate is just nicking it as it turns. What about you guys, anyone had this problem or any ideas? im going to pull the starter and check it out for wear. cheers guys
