View Full Version : Subwoofer box repair
Hey guys,
Lately my sub has been sounding quite bad compared to how it is normally, upon inspection it appears the cotton the box was lined with has been bashed out and blown out the port and the MDF is now just vibrating against itself...
Just wondering what the best thing to line the box with as obviously whatever the manufactorer used failed badly! :)
I would use dynamat but I simply can't afford it, need a cheap solution.
Thanks,
Dean

I had foam inside the box that deadens the bass inside the box to stop a horrible mdf echo noise... That foam was blown to bits and then out the port... Now it sounds horrible! :( Just wondering if theres some tougher shit to line the box with!?

I used cotton Wadding you can get from Spotlight or local dress maker.. Its in a sorta sheet and you just stick it into place with some double sided tape...
Becareful using Glue.... It can eat the rubber surround off the sub from the fumes...

I used Dacron out of a cheapie pillow i got from some bedding store. It handled a 16inch sub no worries

Dacron or an old insulation bat will work.

My concern is that the role of Polyfill is to trick the woofer into thinking it is a bigger box, nothing else. It does not supress rattles or keep the box warm / cool.
You do not need fill to have a great sounding box. You should really crack it open and find out what is vibrating ( given it a gentle whack ) and glue / silicone / nail / screw it down.
Charisma shhhh......
Common sense just isnt whats needed around here.
