I have some questions a few of you guys might know this. I dont want any smart remarks like put in a 3.5, Why bother with a 3 litre? Do a search. etc etc. I have searched and cant find much useful info. As most ppl play with their 3.5s.
I have a 3.0l as most of you are aware. I pulled the motor out again today. I have lpg written in white texta on the engine block behind the flywheel. Also i have just pulled off the rocker covers (first time in 205,000km) and LPG* is written under the valve train. I have had this motor since brand new and lpg wasn't fitted.
Now did mitsu offer lpg / duel fuel motors (like the Au Falcons) in the tf series?
If so what are the differences in the engine?
Also has any one come across "number 3 cams" and what is the difference to "Number 6" cams?
What would be the difference in spec / power difference?
I thought
Number 4 cams were used in 3.0 to 3.5 up to tj.
Number 6 in tj2+
number 7 in ralliart
Can someone enlighten me?

I saw the same thing on my 3L when I changed the rocker cover gasket. Got no idea though...

ah, is yours an Advance model?
mitsubishi did offer a more LPG friendly engine, but only in the advance i think.
i have an advance and read the factory brochure on it, apparently its got hardend valves, or valve seats or somthing, cant remember exactly, cuz LPG doenst provide the extra lubrication that normal fuel does.
cant help you on the cams tho

Yeah motor is out of an advance.
Edit - out of owners manual - TF Advance page 6 - 30
The optional LPG compatible engine contains some cruicial internal components especially engineered to maintain full engine durability with either petrol or dual fuels; enabiling conversion to duel fuel

Advances had the LPG compatible engine. If you look just above the middle exhaust port you will note a rectangle cast into the head. If it has 1 or 3 holes its compatible from memory. No holes = not compatible.

Advance had the LPG engines, I have 2 sets of spare LPG heads here as well as one bottom end as well
The LPG's had harder guides and seats for the valves but same valves
Really no more worth in them to be honest as the std magna engines hold up to LPG just fine

Sweet as guys, Thanks for the answer for lpg.
The motor is spotless as, you guys know its copped a flogging over the years, I will post a pic up of the internals, not one sign of gumming up. Looks brand new. Just to prove you dont need expensive oil! Just regular servicing.
Now for the cams any body know?

Now for the cams any body know?
From my understanding, and someone please correct me if i am wrong... The cam numbers denote a specific cam for an engine. We know that 4,6 and 7 are cams we are familiar with in the 6G engines but a 3 could be a cam for the 4G54 (using that as an example only). I do know that a 7 is the same as a 15 (which is the 380 cam). Also, they will never use 9 as a number as it is easily mistaken for 6. It could lead to confusion when reading the number stamped on the cam.
So the cams we have to play with are 4,6,7 and 15. And there are my new Tattslotto numbers for next week!

The 3.0 ltr cam is very similar to the #6 3.5ltr cam not sure about the advance/retard setting on the dowwell pin.
Ralliart/380 is the next cam up for you. Yeah regular oil changes is the key, it makes a huge difference.
Cheers Dave

sweet thanks mate, i had a look at both, the dowel pin looks to be in same position as the 3 ltr one. So would there be a difference in hp if i put the number 6 cams in it?

Just put engine and new clutch back in magna.
"Number 6" cams will fit in a 3.0 ltr a straight swap, the dowel pins and distributor slot line up to the 3.0 ltr distributor and gears. I havent done the computer side of things yet, it seems to have lost a bit of midrange torque but after 5000 rpm feels like it goes harder, it also has changed the note of the exhuast, sounds deeper. I have a before dyno figure (before i swapped cams) i will post it up when get the new combo sorted 100% and dynoed
