Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum, I've just bought over a 1997 TF Executive from my friend as he was going overseas. Keeping it short and simple, the car has a few dents, bumps, knocks here and there on the panel and the rear bumper.

I have gone around to a few workshops and asked for quotes, after they knew I was going to pay for the repairs myself they started quoting prices about $2000 - $3000. This is ridiculous!!! It is no major damage I reckon some light hitting or something will do the trick.

So I like to ask for advice if I should get it fixed or leave it alone, the dents are a sore to the eye. If I were to get it fixed can someone recommend a decent workshop around Melbourne or Adelaide? I'm just staying in Melbourne for a while then moving back to Adelaide so where ever is more reasonable please advice.

Thank everyone in advance.

Do you have a breakdown of costs? $2-3k seems like a lot but it might be reasonable enough depending on what they're actually doing.

Could be worth trying to scout-out a second-hand bumper as well.

$2-$3K...well what were they repairing? if they are repainting whole doors....gaurd or two...bumpers? theres alot of work involved....you gotta think yeah it may just be a few bumps....but if its all getting repainted trims and bumpers dont come off and prep themselves...

Welcome to AMC :)well done folks, only took 6 posts to welcome a new member to the club :) though to be fair, the other 5 posts were good, constructive posts answering his query, wouldn't have killed you to throw in a welcome though surely??

You could do the work yourself, the haynes manual has a step by step guide how to repair dents etc, and if you are no good at painting then do all the prep yourself and just get the shop to spray the bits, should save a bit of cash. my mate got his whole car (toyota levin ) sprayed a pearl black for $2000 by doing all the prep himself (Im in NZ mind!)

Welcome aboard. I would not rush into any hasty repairs. Do your research first. No hurry!!

Thanks guys I appreciate all your suggestions, I'll try to get some photos and show you all, then maybe you guys can help me justify if it is worth $2000 - $3000, I reckon the guy who quote me was just trying to get me off his back haha...

First welcome!

$2000.00 / $3k for repair on dog leg, strip and repaint of boot, roof and then paint of bonnet, doesnt seem too bad to me..... considering - a bonnet alone is worth approx $350+ to have painted, roof +$500 for paint - its adding up quite quickly there... somewhere around $2300 I think could be considered a good price for the amount of work that needs doing...

My 2cents there :)

Well i had the same pushed in bar when i bought mine.its a very easy fix it should take a novice about 3 hours max. behind the plastic cover is a metal bar A.you could straighten it. or B. replace it with an undamaged one then with that job done by you it will save money just for a small respray on the boot lid. why not try respray it yourself.
