hey people.. just wondering if i'm the only one that gets shocked everytime i exit my car.. Could this be my dodgy amp install? or do i need to ground something else? i've heard people add another ground from battery to body of car..

i looked at those straps however i can't imagine having something dangling from my car.. very unsightly.. and i get the shocks whatever i'm wearing.. gotten to the point that i don't wanna touch any part of the door.. I kick them closed or use the windows.. might have something to do with the seat cover.. i'll remove and test.. however happens EVERY time i exit car.
You've read my mind with this post!
I think I'll be getting an earthing strap and mounting it somewhere near the center of my car - I don't want daggy bits hanging from the back either :)
Worst thing in my case is that I've discovered my window tint must have metal film - god that scared me the first time I got zapped from the window!

haha.. From what i've read about the straps that u attach and have trailing on the road.. u have to mount them to the rear of the car for them to be effective.. so very visible from rear.. there has to be a better solution.. Has anyone tried earthing the battery? does that work?

My previou job involved getting in and out of a car hundreds of times day. I use to get a big shock every time and it got that bad i use to carry around a cloth to close the door with.
Turns out that the cause of this was my socks. For memory, it was due to the synthetic materials in them. Started using natual socks such as wool and believe it or not, never got a shock again.

awesome.. so no more cheap socks.. :) not sure if this will work as i'm sure i've driven with flip-flops or the Ozzie equivalent (thongs) and still been shocked but i'll try..

I have synthetic car seat covers in both my Magnas.
I was getting zapped all the time as I went to get out of the car my backside would rub against the seat and build up a charge then zap.
To stop it, and it seems to work, I open the door before I move. Then I grab and continue to hold the exposed (silver screws) metal on the door latch which is screwed to the body of the car. I continue holding it as I get out of the car. That way the charge is being constatly discharged as I rub against the seats when I climb out. No more shocks. Works on every car. You must have exposed metal to grab onto.
Cheers.

stop rubbing your bum into your seat and you wouldn't start building static electricity.. also you clothing could play a part, eg, a wooly jumper would conduct static electricity than wearing a t shirt.
