View Full Version : Camber Kit question

Hey everyone, i just had a camber kit fitted, my tyres were wearing uneven (on the inside) after the car was lowered. Anyhow does camber kit act as an anti lift kit? The reason im asking is that becasue i started to scrape my wheel flares with my tyre so often ever since it got fitted, i didnt used to happen when the car was lowered for like 6 months only after camber kit was fitted.
Cheers

To counteract the effects of lowering, a camber kit would move the top of the tyre closer to the outside of the guard, which obviously positions it closer to the flare/guard.
My guess would be that since the top of your rim/tyre is now sitting out more, it sits underneath your flare (instead of next to it). When you hit a bump, the tyre touches the flare.
Rolling guards and trimming the flares is pretty common when you have rims wider than stock and/or offset out more than stock.
Are the camber kits adjustable at all? Maybe a bit less camber will bring a balance of better tyre wear and no scrubbing?
No, camber kits don't act as Anti Lift.
From memory the anti lift is caused by changing the caster setting in the suspension, ie the angle of the shock relative to the front/rear of the vehicle, while camber is the angle relative to the left/right of the vehicle.

how much would it cost to get all guards rolled?
Mr_Roberto

I paid $150 to get the rears rolled. Only the rears can be rolled on a Magna, there's nothing on the front to roll.

If you're talking about the rear then all that is needed is an offset bolt.

yeah my rear tyres arnt sitting straight because its been lowered, the guy at pedders said it will cost about 700 to correct it...should i go elsewere oh and its a TH sports
I'm pretty sure I've read about the rear camber kit on this site already, maybe in the AWD or AWD community section.
All it is is a bolt and some shims (basically a thick washer). You could easily make up the kit from a simple bolt supplier (engineering shop), making sure you get the right type of bolt for strength.
From a poor memory, the kit might have been $70 from Whiteline. I would guess that the 2x bolts, nuts + a number of washers would cost no more than $20 at the right place.
Front camber kit is more complex though and more expensive. Maybe that's what Pedders is quoting you for ?

see, i actually dont know what a camber kit looks like or how it works...he lifted my car up on the hoist and showed me the damage done to the rear tyres and also showed me how my model has a bolt to ajust the towing or something but yeah what actually is a camber kit ?:S ahha

It's not the end of the world. Most people with lowered suspension (myself included) don't bother to correct the rear camber. It may even be beneficial to keep the camber there - depending on your offset and rim size, you may have clearance issue with the guards if you correct your camber.
$700 is definitely wrong though. I'm not sure how much it's supposed to be, but I'm positive I was reading somewhere on these forums recently that a rear camber kit would be about the $70-80 mark.

i know its not the end of the world, but my tyres are now illegal because of it... just was hoping to get it fixed. I can get my car on the hoist at school what actually is involved in doing it yourself?
Yep, here you go:
http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail.php?part_number=KCA412
$77.70 and I'm pretty sure that one kit does both sides, no need for 2 kits. Might be a little different to the washer/shim method I read about, so maybe that explains why it's relatively more expensive than 2 bolts, 2 nuts and some shims/washers.
Whiteline also have a fitting guide PDF on that page, so check that out for some more details.

just had a read thru thanks for that but how am i meant to adjust it without the aligning equipment? or after ive fitted the kit just take someone to be aligning?
Mr_Roberto

Just get a pro to do it mate when you get a rear alignment done
Shouldnt cost more then 100 bucks to install that kit (I have the same one and my suspennsion guy thought it was great, very easy to install)

yeh mate, if you dont wanna do it yourself, buy the parts straight from the supplier and get a local suspension shop to do it.

Should only cost the price of a wheel alignment plus a half hours labour for fitting. Don't go back to Padders, though.

Ahh, sorry. You want to correct negative camber in the rear?
Yeah, its a totally different set-up. This (http://www.whiteline.com.au/instruction/214_KCA357.pdf) is what your after. Probably best to contact Shawn at Philcom to see if he can source it for you cheaply.

Sweet :) Thanks for the PDF.
If Shawn can't get it for you at a reasonable price it should be easy to put a kit together yourself using large washers and new high tensile bolts.
Oops - my bad
I was confused between the front camber kit I linked to on whiteline and the rear camber that I'd read about previously but not seen any pics/pdfs for.
I'm glad you guys worked out what's what. :)

I paid $150 to get the rears rolled. Only the rears can be rolled on a Magna, there's nothing on the front to roll.
There is a lip on the front aswell. Much smaller then the rearr though.. I had to roll the front as my fronts where hitting.
if they are just scrubbing on the rears you shouldnt have to roll the guards. Just trim the frares a tad. They have a load of over hang under there.
