hey my aircon is not been working for awhile, ie no cold air. when i got the car 2 years ago, the compressor made a clicking noise when engaged, but i added oil via a recharge kit from sebestos, and it came right. it was never really cold though, and i just noticed the fan doesnt come on, its burnt out. now would this cause the aircon to stop putting out cold air? only reason i ask is i watched this garage program on discovery and they had a VW something that had the same problem and a blown fan was the cause. anyone have any experience with this? the gas is sweet and the snowflake doesnt flash. cheers guys

first up, are you sure it has enough gas?? is the a/c compressor clutch cutting in?? ie is the air con actually working? there is a low pressure switch in most if not all a/c systems that will not allow the compressor cut in when the gas is too low, this will usually stop the fan from cutting in also, the other thing to remember is that the thermofan only really matters when you're at a standstill so if you're moving along at say 60 - 80k's it ain't gonna matter if the fan isn't going, airflow does affect how well the a/c works as when we regas a car we always put a thermometer into the vent to check the efficiency of the a/c and it always gets colder when we're test driving the car, in short, you should get it checked out by a mechanic or auto electrician, hope this helps, cheers, Mick

YEP the aircon clutch is definitely cutting in, makes a slight clicking noise though when running. the fan motor is gone as i would give it a push and it would get going and stay on, but slowly. i took it out and found its not servicable so put back in. The VW i talked about would not give cold air while the fan was not working although i know its a totally different car. what temp should be coming out the AC when set to coldest (17)? i do all my own repairs, do not trust anyone else to do a thorough job. had to many dodgy mechanics who had no idea.

replace the fan then lol, but like just been said you will need to be moving to see if its just the fan thats the causing the problem, drive on the hiway on a cold day, if your air con goes cold, then thats your problem there
