Hay all

I braught a 2000 model magna sports cheap. It has 230km. Seems like its been looked after. I had the car sitting in the garage for 2 days without starting. This morning i went to start it my dad was about 2 meters away and said there was a little bit of smoke that came from the exahust and it smelt like burnt oil. I let the car idle from cold to operating temp. Then idle for a further 4mins. I got my dad to give it a rev to see if any smoke came out. Then there was a good amount off smoke that came out and it smelt bad kinda like oil and it looked blue. He revved it again seemed to have gone. I let the car idle again for a further 10mins revved it again nothing. Took it for a drive came back let it idle again for a while then revved it again nothing. Its wierd wont do it again. Has not used oil in the last 2000km of driving either. I remember my parents 3.0l TE magna doing this one morning to. It worried me cuase i was thinking it could be the piston rings.?

Sounds like valve stem seals either worn out or gone hard with age.
Head can stay on, valve train and valve springs will have to be removed to change them. Personally I wouldn't worry about it until it gets really bad.

Perhaps a seal conditioner additive may help? I have no experience with them but it's cheap enough to try.

Nulon Engine Stop Leak:

DON"T USE any stop smoke additives of any kind (they are much more common). They are basically just oil thickeners!

If you haven't had a service yet, I suggest you get a full service done ASAP. A full service consists of the usual and a few extra things:
Radiator coolant, automatic transmission service, power steering fluid change, brake fluid change, Engine oil/filter, full check of belts etc

- Radiator coolant has a finite life, depending on the brand/quality 2-4 years recommended.
- Automatic transmission fluid is almost always neglected but should be changed every 2 or 3 years (more if you happen to do 150,000km in a year for example!...)
- Power steering fluid is probably the most neglected. Easiest to get done the same time as the auto if possible, or say, 4 years. Its inexpensive to do for a piece of mind.
- brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, and it does go bad. Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years for the crap stuff or max of every 3 years for the better stuff (Super dot 4). Not changing the brake fluid can lead to costly repairs to the brake systems
