Hi guys

If any of you have looked at my members ride thread you would have seen that I'm having trouble with my dual batteries. Anyway the question is would it be dodgey/stupid/etc to run a distribution box from the accessory power wire. Reason why I ask is there are two wires connected to the +12V of the small/main battery. The guys that installed my boot battery have run a wire connecting the battery to the alternator but have failed to run the second wire- which I've traced back to the fuse box - to the boot battery.

So I thought the solution could involve running a distribution box - two power inlets (one for each battery) and one wire connecting to the fuse box (the original). How does that sound to you guys? I don't really want to buy another battery given the two I have now seem OK (the small one just doesn't have the power to fire the accessories alone). Would there be any other possible way of going about it?

Cheers in advance

Few questions.

Why two batteries?

Secondly, is there no fuse on the boot battery?

What is the size wire, alt > boot battery?

One more thing - how are these batteries actually wired.......

Two batteries as the supercharger required a smaller battery for it all to fit. Running 8+ tvs, sound system, dual compressors for the bags and the car electrics seemed almost impossible for the original battery to cope with let alone a smaller one. The wire is zero gauge to the second battery and the wiring to the small battery in the engine bay is stock. The guys didnt put a fuse on the larger battery just ran a wire to the alternator and ran an earth to the chassis.

So in essence, the small, dead battery is stock wiring. Power wire runs from the alternator to the larger battery (no fuse) and an earth runs down under the car and is mounted to the chassis.

Putting the small battery on charge now for about 24 hours and see how we go.

Who the fck wired this?

Depending on how small the battery is, will depend on whats killing it. Either you run the entertainment system/bags with the car off and whoever wired this did not set up a proper relay, or the battery is too small even for starting.

The way the system SHOULD have been wired is using a relay to isolate the boot battery (this should be used for entertainment/bags), so when your car is off this is what is supplying the electricity. Should that battery get too low, thats fine as your starting battery (in the engine bay) is not being used.

This prevents your starting battery from being destroyed (which.....depending on the voltage I assume it already is).

Now two things, firstly you should have this re-wired so your car does not burn down (circuit breaker or fuse on the power wire FFS), secondly it should be wired as above, and lastly you should be using Optima batteries.

If you need someone to wire it in the Sydney area, contact Simon @ Zap Bits 0416 099 111

I went to batteryworld to hook it up. Primarily its connected to the alternator and distribution box used for the bags and amps. The boot battery is so large I had to "custom" make a battery box to hold it down. Its sealed so doesnt need to vent to atmosphere etc. Sydneys a bit too far ATM so might give Andrews Car Audio a buzz and see what he can do whilst fixing Bro sounds wiring.

The smaller battery didnt fail until recently so was capable of firing the engine.

EDIT: the boot battery is a Centuary Din85L

See the funny thing is if your car burnt down due to their wiring, they would be responsible for all damage done.

Speak to an engineer about the battery situation, afaik the RTA makes no exceptions.

Running 2 batteries WITHOUT a diode pack is going to make one battery useless. An idea would have to scrap the small battery and put a gold plated terminal block to accomadate the vehicle wiring, and run 150A cable to the rear battery. My 2c worth. :)
