Presuming this is a V6, damage is likely to be bad with possibly bent valves etc. You will have to take the top end apart to get a better look. Was the belt overdue?

wtf, that suggests something else has given up like tensioner. Regardless, there will likely be hefty damage as they are an interference engine. Like i said, bent valves and damaged pistons.

Have seen damaged piston crowns from valves hitting them too when the timing belt gives out... $$$

how had are you with the tools? Youd most likely be able to see the damage by untorquing the heads properly then taking them off, your timings going to be bucketloads out anyway. 20k overdue is alot bud, going to be a very expensive mistake!

Bud, if you were driving and the belt came off, the valves are bent.

How many, who knows, but be it 1 or 24 at least one head has to come off

I have spare heads here as well as poss a spare 3.5 sitting here as well (deciding if I will sell it or keep it at the moment)

If you get the car towed here, I am able to look at the car and give you both an idea as to why it came off and how much you will be looking at to repair.

Jolly's (Dandenong) have a stack of TE, TH & TJ engines ($650-$750) if it turns out real bad.
