Hi,

I need to book my 380 in for the 45k service and I want the transmission (auto) flushed good and proper, should I take it to Mitsubishi? This is my first log book service since buying the car when it had just over 32k on the clock. I had the oil and filter changed by my mechanic at 37.5k and now it's time for 45k.

Buy the transmission oil from Mitsubishi and have your mechanic do it if you trust him. Otherwise take it to a dealer or a transmission specialist for a power flush.

The first thing I had done when I bought the car was to take it to my auto transmission guy and get him to service and power flush it. I would always recommend a power flush, it is a bit extra but the end result is better. I did that at 70,000k. Next time in he will be fitting a transmission cooler to it. Why the hell they dont come out with them on all big cars I have no eye deer. Maybe they want to sell more transmissions!!

Don't get too angry. Brand new diesel Hilux's don't come with transmission coolers!

Will they sell me their oil? Ford wouldn't sell me stuff like that when I asked, it was just for the use of their service department. I don't trust my mechanic to do the flush as I want it done properly. Should I just avoid Mitsubishi for all servicing? I did have plenty of bad experiences with Ford, so know about the pain/damage a dealership can do.

Of course you should take it to a Mitsubishi dealer.

You want a warranty? What you going to do if the third party stuffs something up?

We are all human and if a third party stuffs it what you gunna do???

They'll give you a 3month warranty, but what if they use the wrong fluid and you find out 12 months later?

Yes Mitsubishi will sell you their transmission oil.

From what you're saying, I would recommend you find a transmission specialist near you, or just take it to Mitsubishi and get them to do a power flush on it.

Have just booked the 380 in for it's 45K service on Thursday with Mitsubishi. I had to give them a list of does & do nots with the blower. Told them I will be supplying special synthetic oil & do not touch the air cleaner (supposed to change it) as I now have the CAI pod.

I was going to install the tranny cooler today & removed the grill, but it looks like the whole bumper needs to come off to mount it properly so I put it back together. I wanted to get it on before the service as I am getting a power flush done but will now ask for a bit extra fluid to top it up once I get the cooler on.

Fooz mate,

Why are you getting a Mitsubishi dealer to service your car? In my experience they're expensive, and the work is generally carried out by an apprentice. Surely a trusted local mechanic would be far better?

Yeah I know mate. I've sacked my mechanic as he has let me down a couple of times & I want to get the tranny flushed so I thought I'd take it to Mitsubishi this time round.

Thinking next time I will take it to my tuner but he is on the other side of town & I have to arrange lifts etc.

I agree with Disciple, Fooz

Mitsi will probably not honour any drivetrain warranties on your car any more.

My brother says that if you keep alog of receipts for oil filters, oil and parts used then it is perfectly legal for you to do your own service work.

You can sign it off yourself.

They cannot argue if you have done a workmanlike job of it.

I would just let them do hoist services etc.

Bring it up to my place, I'll flush the transmission for you while you wait!

Mate I think I have blown my drivetrain warranty anyway with all the stuff I have done lol I'm not really concerned about the warrranty, if I break it it's my own stupid fault now.

Thanks for the offer but I'll let them do it. It's convenience too, they are just down the road & will drop me home & being a company car I get all the tax perks anyway so not too worried if the cost is up a bit.

I was gonna take it to CNJ as I still have to get the AFR's tweaked but because of the tranny flush I thought I'd just go to the dealer this time.

Would not like to put that to the test
