G'day
I've done a quick search but haven't found anyting yet. Can someone tell me the width of the factory 380 17" alloy rim please?
Also do they fit a TL Awd.
Its almost time for tyres again and I'm getting a bit tired of it flogging the inner and outside edges out and still having plenty of tread in the middle. Others here say the factory TL Awd rims are too narrow for the tyre size.

I really don't want to spend heaps buying new rims so was thinking of maybe used factory 380's.
Any thoughts?

thanks'

Put a bit more pressure into them mate, you'll evenly wear out the tyre then, sounds like under inflating or you have camber issues.

I was gonna say under inflation but didn't for fear of being n00b. Under inflated tyres will ride on the outer walls instead of evenly, conversely, over inflated tyres will ride on the middle of the tread more.

What PSI do you run mate?

currently running about 42psi to try and even the wear out. Have been running this sort of pressure for most of the life of this set of tyres. Can't remember how many K's without looking in my book. This car has always worn the outside and inside of the tyres. I've had it from new and I fitted a set of Kings lows front & rear with KYB struts at around 50,000Klm. Now has 156,000Klm on it. I've had the alignment checked several times and its always within factory spec. Hard to find a front end specialist (in Newcastle) who really knows what they are doing as against one who thinks he knows what he's doing.

Ahhh... Nothing to do with uninflation. I ran my 215/60R16 Grid II on 16x6" wheels at 40+ pressure and it wore the edges out way to fast. Problem is that the width of the wheel at 6" is the bear minimum for the 215mm tyre. Falcons and Commodores run 6.5" wheels for their 215mm 16" tyres. As soon as I went to 17" wheels which is 1" wider in wheel and 10mm wider in tyres, the sidewall buldge disappeared and wear is nowmuch even. This was the case with 225/50R17 tyres and 225/55R17 tyres. Now don't forget that the AWDs weigh more than the FWDs as well and the fact that one tends to corner faster in an AWD.

So does anyone know if the 380 17" rims will fit a TL Awd with no problems?

Yeah, no problem. the 380 tyres aren't suitable though. Allscall has them on, now, or at one stage.

They'll fit perfectly mate. I've been running them on my TL wagon for nearly 3 years now.

My AWD is a VR so came with 7" x 16 wheels. It wears both insides and outsides of tyres. I'd hate to think how bad wear must be for those with only 6'' wheels. Inside wear is due to neg camber mainly when running straight ahead. Outside wear is due to combination of weight on front tyres, not enough neg camber when cornering so it needs more caster, 7" wheels being too narrow for 215/60 tyre and the rear LSD pushing the car into understeer. I run 40psi front 36 rear and aligned it with zero toe-in front and rear.

Graham had the same wear issues with his AWD even with a custom 20mm rear bar he had made to reduce understeer. He has just gone to 7.5'' x 17 wheels with 36.5mm offset and 215/55 tyres so will be interesting to see how these wear.

Cheers,
Alan

They are on my TF wagon (came from my 380 gt) look good and yep fitment no problem , diameter slightly tall but will fix that at next tyre change,as for pressures am running 38 rear 40 front with no problems.
