Hi,
just wondering if anyone has done an EFI conversion on a 2.6L Astron (sigma) engine... it is currently setup with twin sidedraught 45 webbers, but I want to change to EFI for reliability (ie tuning), and was told it would not drop performance.
so..... I have pulled the engine from a 2.6L TP magna... is it simply a matter of changing over the head, and fitting all the EFI gear, or is something else more major going to get in my way.... :P
Cheers,
chris

do you have to change the head ?
is this a manual sigma ?
a guess
just change over the inlet manifold
and wire in the TP front loom and engine computer for the injectors
plus a TP dissy
I think you need to change the
fuel pump /filter and fuel lines to run an EFIs pump pressure ?
throttle cable ?
maybe other is stuff needed wait for more replys
if you are going to use the TP motor you need the sigma timing cover waterpump and rockers

Youll need a few bits and pieces but its generally straight forward. I did look at this option in my old sigma but I ended up just doing a lumpy cam and a bigger carby setup on my sigma to run consistant mid to low 15's out of a bog stock car.
I ran a M7 head with a holley 4 barrel on it, reground cam, exhaust, extractors, and ran scorpion gearbox and diff which are stronger as they are jap parts not aussie borg warner stuff. Also did the GSR 4 disc conversion on it.

In reality unless you're going to go for a set of quad throttle bodies you are going to drop a bit in performance in the top end of the rev range but you will pick up torque and it will be smoother to drive.
It all depends on why you are wanting to change over to EFI? If you are looking for reliability as you has stated then your best bet would be to get the magna EFI gear and couple that with an aftermarket computer.
Another option would be to ditch the EFI idea all together and use a carby off a 250 crossflow falcon (XE-XF or cortina would be the best bet) I have a few mates in brisbane running the falcon carbies and they are returning great results in terms of fuel economy smooth acceleration cruising and full throttle and the power is there when you need it.

The twin sidedrafts if tuned correcttly would give better performance, not to mention sound way better. :D

Yeah they would sound better and give better performance but the single falcon carby will be better down low and be smoother through the rev range.

Have done this in a Sigma and also have seen one in a Cordia
The second gen manifolds and TB are a far better option as they are a larger set up by far.
You could use the factory engine loom (no need to change the front harness over and given that you have a Sigma will not work anyway) but a far better option would be to go for an after market ECU as will be a lot better fit

Yeah, forgot about that site seeing as it was my old club affiliation before AMC.... www.sigma-galant.com BEST place for all your Sigma, Scorpion, early lancer info. There was actually a member on there that won the Top Gear Aus video competition. Great bunch of guys.
